Elder is too hard

I was playing with two friends we all had bronze armor and finewood bows and we got destroyed by the elder, we had set up a portal from our base to the boss and we only got it to half health

The first time I fought him I ran circles from a distance shooting a bow. However, when I fought him with a buddy the other night I noticed that you can actually use the stone pillars to your advantage, his spikes don't pierce through or destroy them. Good luck!

The best way to defeat the elder is keep your distance and use the pillars to hide behind and avoid those ranged attacks. Id recommend having a backup bow just incase and loads of fire arrows if you can.

use upgraded troll hide and a bow, the bronze armour slows you down a lot
also use jam and carrot soup if you can, oh and fire arrows obviously

Just use full level 4 wolf armour , a draugr Bow , fire arrows, eat Serpent stew and Lox meat Pie and sausages - make sure you've fermented medium health potions as well.

Bring along 9 friends with all the same gear ...

I solo'd The Elder with Copper armor and a Fine bow. Killed him first try. Fire arrows and a LOT of distance worked for me. Just had to dodge the vines.

Use more distance, use the trees around you as cover when he casts his ranged attack on you.

3 of us beat him with just trollhide, no copper/bronze. Was a nice challenge and died a couple of times but not too hard. It's good to have a guy with a leveled up shield and some stamina to take the hits while the others shoot/backstab. Dodge doesn't really work against the AOE ground stomp but a good shield can block or at least absorb the majority of it.

I just basically went around taking all the hits and avoiding the roots, getting the occasional spear hit in, conserving stamina for blocks. While the others set it on fire etc. I was right in front of him so he kept doing his melee attacks instead of the more powerful ranged. My level 3 tall shield was absorbing the whole damage apart from 0.1, so I took 0.1-0.6 damage each time.

If you're really struggling wait till morning before starting. You don't want to be fighting him overnight when all the locals show up.

I didn't expect to go through that many arrows and I ended up having to run away, repair, and come back.


One thing to consider is using flame arrows - circle around the pillars on his summon area because those are invulnerable... so peek out when ready to shoot... shoot... duck back behind it... and reserve some stamina to run to the next pillars when he runs forward... rinse and repeat.

I ate carrot soup, the Jelly stuff (mixing together blueberry + strawberry) and cooked meat. This seemed like enough life and stamina regen for this boss.

Expect to use probably 125 to 150 arrows. (I also missed a lot.)

Literally just strafe sideways, and when he spawns the roots just....walk away from where they are...

Elder is not hard, the difficulty spike comes in with Bonemass
You just need to be better prepared

he only has 3 abilities, one that raises tentecles depend on where you are, machine gun vines and a stomp.

hide behind the pillars for the machine gun vines he will walk towards u, stab him. when he stomps roll away... stab him... when he makes the tenticles run away behind a pillar.

if he makes the tenticles at the pillar your at... go to him and stab
