copper pickaxe better then antler pickaxe?

As the title says, what upgrade does the copper pickaxe give me over the old antler pickaxe?
I want to know so i can decide what to upgrade first.

Antler is the basic pick axe that enables you to unlock copper, copper lets you mine iron etc. Copper will have more durability/damage that kind of thing.

Bronze has higher efficiency (less swings per node) and is needed to get iron. Seems like it has higher durability but that might be due to it taking less swings compared to the antler pickaxe. It's a pretty solid upgrade and pretty reasonable for an early bronze investment. Better pickaxe means faster mining means more efficient bronze production.

how do you unlock the bronze pickaxe? I dont see it in the forge

Crafting specific items will unlock others. Someone will make a decent tree showing it sometime I would imagine. Other things unlock when you loot something.

In your case it could be that you need to upgrade your forge. In the crafting interface some items have gold stars next to them. They will upgrade either your workbench or forge.
