Is it possible to kill bonemass boss solo?
I crafted the best bow I could (the steel/iron one), upgraded it fully (+4) and tried to kill the boss with it. I found some tree I can jump on so I'm safe from his attacks. However the damage I deal is so miniscule that I run out of durability on the bow before I can take at least 30% of his health.

you do not use bows to kill bonemass, take a poison resit pot.. shield up with a hammer and you can kill him fairly easy solo

No it’s not. Bonemass can not be killed in the single player portion of the game. The game is really MP and they just added SP in as false advertising to increase sales.

git gud whahaha

DId it without bow, blunt mace and iron armor upgraded + shield.
Poison resist and enough healing potions.
never heard of the saying 'Ask a stupid question. Get a stupid answer'

I'm on my second play though mate. I've just got to copper.

I think the main thing you need to be concerned with if you're going to face tank the bonemass is you need a way to deal with the mobs he spawns. The best way to do this is to smash them with the Iron Sledge. If you have that, you can 1-shot all the mobs. However, you can probably do damage to the boss with your upgraded mace much quicker.

Watch for his right arm swing attack, and then wail on him. Watch for his AoE poison blast and his vomit attack - for those get back and immediately deal with the mobs.

OR, simply cheese him with a treehouse way up in an unbreakable tree and shoot ice arrows at him, you scum.

Yes you can kill him solo fairly easily. Its just a battle more based on stamina management than anything else.
Iron mace and frost arrows work best from my experience.

I beat bonemass on the first try. I was just prepared.
1. poison resistance mead
2. sledge hammer for dealing with mobs (need to find trader for sledge hammer ingredient)
3. iron mace for effective damage against boss
4. carry healing and stamina potions for when you run low.
5. iron armor upgraded to at least level 3
6. flatten land around the skull with a hoe
7. make sure to have portal nearby in case you die
8. make sure you have rested buff for at least 15min
9. block his physical attacks with shield, then attack with mace. If health is high, don't worry about poison damage and keep attacking. If health is low, step away, heal up with potions.
10. foods buffs: turnip soup, carrot soup, and sausage.

I think that's it. The more prepared you are in this game, the more likely you are to succeed. I kinda like the challenge because it forces you to be resourceful and use every element in the game that you came across. Good luck fellow viking!

Just soloed him no problem. Frost arrows or blunt weapons are the trick. And be sure to have poison resistance potion.

Cooked meat is a better alternative to carrot soup in bonemass' case. Additionally, you're better off with fully upgraded troll armor rather than iron armor, due to the movement penalty of iron armor.
Most of the damage in the encounter is poison, which is mitigated by the potions. So armor is less important.

Pretty easy solo ,I used a maxed out iron mace and maxed out Iron armor, medium healing potions, poison resistant potions , and stamina potions. Sausages, Serpent Stew and Turnip stew for food.

You're totally right, armor is not as important and meat would be better. Just sharing what I used to beat bonemass solo.

Of all the bosses, I found Bonemass to be the most challenging and required the most prep.

You need healing potions, stamina potions and poison resist. You need a fully upgraded blunt weapon, fully upgraded armor, fully upgraded shield. Bow + frost arrows can be very handy. Prep the area with your hoe / pickaxe. You want to get rid of any (deeper) water, and any obstacles. Ideally it's as flat as you can get it (within reason).

Eat your best food. Summon him. Avoid his attacks and pummel him with your weapon.

I've seen other people build a shooting platform up in nearby trees and pin cushion him with frost arrows. It's, perhaps, not what the designers intended, but it'll get the job done.

Under 3 minutes with a lvl 4 iron mace. He's a basic tank and spank. Block/parry his melee, walk out of poison clouds, and spam him with the mace. Make sure to get in the full combos, as the last hit in a complete combo does double damage.
If you've flattened the area around the skull for a good bit before the fight it vastly reduces any spawns from him throwing goop (doesn't seem to create spawns if it hits altered ground or trees).
He's an easy boss solo. I was kinda disappointed after how much people hyped him, kinda like Deathsquitos.
RayRay Jackson Mar 18, 2021 @ 5:22pm
Poison resistance, Frost Arrows, or good ole fashioned melee/dodge away when he goes to stink. The bosses end up having only about 3 moves and move pretty slow. Unfortunately, they're also the only things fun to fight after you've gotten to padded armor/black iron.

Can't wait for them to add more (like 45 degree floor pieces) QoL, building, and equipment pieces. As it stands, there isn't much use for flax/linen after you've made armor sets for your friends, and I would love to see them add more options for equipment, Adventuring gear, or boats. (Roadmap)
