Mace because its blunt attacks are the most common weakness. It's also helps that it's one-handed, and therefore you can use it with a parrying device. AKA shield.
That being said, my first weapon choice would be an atgeir. Then a mace.
If you want to stun enemies then you want to parry them, leaving them open for that mace secondary attack.
Does the sword attack any faster than the mace?
I'm not super sure, but I don't think so. If it's different it's not very different. Then again, I haven't used swords as much as other weapons. Swords don't have the blunt attack weakness exploitation of clubs, or the reach and crowd control of atgeirs. They just don't seem to have the clear niche of my main favorites.
The bow! Definitely my favorite. Undetected shots will drop a lot of enemies. Also great for deer.
My friend does tons of damage with parry + sword alternate attack.
Add to the fact that the two endgame clubs currently have very useful stats and the fact that you can use a shield with them, it's just smooth sailing.
If you just want an easy time, but you're using melee. I'd use a Club as a primary and a Polearm to deal with groups of enemies very easily.
Spear has an issue with detecting the hit box, if there is any tiny landscape incline and you end up just wasting your stamina hitting the air.
Sword is alright, fast swings and fair stamina use.
Two handed weapons, haven't really used any of those, for one reason, it takes away shield and parry bonus is way too nice to give up on it.
At the end of the day, I guess, we all have our own playstyle and the weapon we feel most comfortable with personally. Got to experiment and find your preferred one :)
that's actually false...you probably confuse weakness with "not resistant".
What's true is that blunt has the least amount of resist, making blunt damage the "best" in terms of jack-of-all-trades... even stone elementals are only "not resistant" against blunt.
Slash (swords) have no weak ennemies (yet), and some resistants, but hit faster for less stamina. Same for pierce.
In the entire game, only skellies and blobs are WEAK to blunt (yellow damage number). Blobs especially are among the least encountered enemies (at least on my seed), making maces far from mandatory in the swamps...especially since I prefer killing them with my bow
in the swamps, Draugrs, leeches and surtlings are neither weak to blunt, nor to slash or pierce (white damage)
ghosts are resistant to pierce, blunt and slash
Of course, you should use a mace for Bonemass..
so if you only want 1 weapon, go for blunt. if you don't care and go for effectiveness, use the right tool for the right job.
Daggers are faster and perfect opener (if you use stealth), swords hit faster and use less stamina than maces. 2 handers for groups, maces for blobs and stun.
source: personal experience, as I go to the swamp with my sword, and only change to my mace for blobs if I cannot kill them with my bow.
