Mining and trolls

Every time I start mineing copper troll turns up and kills me before I can kill him am I missing a trick any help would be appreciated

Have a bow ready and run from them. Try to make him hit the copper with his attacks and he'll help you mine while you shoot away.

Shoot him in the face with arrows while backing away/dodging when you need to. Make sure to have A LOT of arrows.

Either kill it or don't mine near trolls. Using tools creates noise and nearby creatures will investigate the noise.

Trolls are loud. Listen for them.

ya they can hear you and also they can see you too its pretty great

Pay attention to your surroundings. You are making noise which will attract the Troll (among other creatures)
Run and Kite the Troll. Level 3 Crude Bow + Flinthead Arrows will take them down

Enemies can hear you. It happens in basically every biome with any enemy. Start gathering resources and watch what happens. They'll start walking in your direction.

If you're wearing troll hide armor you'll be way more sneakier, and the bonus sneak damage is great too, specially with either dagger or bows but I mostly use bow. Just kite them with the bow, it can be done even with crude bow and wood arrows because I've managed it too

All that said, using trolls to mine for you is much faster than mining it yourself.

Mining copper can be quite a pain at the start, until you get upgraded bronze pickaxe

It's still a pain afterwards. Wish copper was more like tin.

Tin is easier to get and you don't need as much as copper, but yeah, it's still a bit grindy but an upgraded pickaxe does wonders when compared with the first pickaxe, I managed to get a nice new base very close to copper deposits and now I'm breaking my pickaxe everytime I'll go near, so I gotta make a backup one now for the new base

Even then, troll mining is just so much faster. I used to get bored fast with copper grinding, then I learned that Trolls can break copper. One swing can take out multiple pieces.

Dont worry too much. Soon you wont even need Copper because you will be in the Swamps digging through Mud for Iron Scraps and having to deal with the Mobs there
