Also, get some wood support. As soon as you get hard wood then you can have very high and sturdy roof supports.
That's actually really clever to use "natural" walls instead of constructed ones for the base of the structure. Critters can't break those as easily.
The 45 degree allow to use more room inside if the Roof is the wall too (like on the pic above)
The flatter version is better if your roof is anyway on a decent high
Once you unlock bronze, bronze hatchet and get some Core Wood, it's easy to make roofs like this one.
