"Bed needs a nearby fire"
This mechanic is really dumb without a way to put a heat source indoors. The current meta is to put a fire right outside the wall where a bed is at, or to delete a floor tile near the bed and put the fire there. This seems more like a workaround than how the game should actually handle this. Perhaps provide a stone oven or fireplace that can be built at the start.

Fires go indoors just fine, just not on wood which burns.

you can bring the ground up to where you are, I use a 2nd fake floor then at that slightly higher altitude use 'level' so the ground is level with my wooden floor. Place fire, then place floor down, no ground and it won't look like it's clipping through if done right.

There are many ways to place fire inside the house. Just google valheim indoor fire...

Destroy a floor piece. Put down fire. Make sure the smoke can vent. Done. That's what Vikings did. Well, except they just didn't build flooring where the fire was going to be.

Maybe running water and a microwave oven too?

Fire has a radius, figure out the radius. A hearth has a bigger radius, and the bonfire yet an even bigger radius. When you discover stone, the little campfire can be placed on the stone floor.

You can actually place the floor back after you've placed the fire.

It works fine. It's not as if you notice that the ground the fire is on isn't French Polished Teak.

My home was on stilts, so I just put the fire on the ground underneath the bed and it reached, fire radius goes thru blocks/walls etc. House is about 3-4 meters off the ground since finding flat ground in this game is damn near impossible, and its to much of a pain in the arse to make it flat myself.

What annoys the hell out of me is how workbench needs to have a roof etc over it, its like.. why? Thats just making it clunky. Then again if it wasn't this way you could just plunk one down anywhere for repairs/crafting. Which I guess is the point.

ow no god forbid you do not have everything easy at the start, or that placing a fire on wood instead of dirt or stone is not possible

What is next? needing chimneys to get rid of the smoke being a problem?

It does suck when I build the big badass bed and my friends still have the straw beds and the comfort level defaults to the lowest bed in the home.

A lot of you are missing the point of the topic. This isn't about how to workaround this issue, this is a critique about a system that doesn't really make sense. Some people have mentioned that you can place a fire inside with a chimney, and that sounds reasonable; but this isn't apparent as someone who just started playing Valheim. I looked up how to get around this when I tried to sleep for my first time, and the search results mentioned putting a fire outside the wall where the bed is at, or putting a fire underneath the house, and that's just a big _what_?. It's illogical and unimmersive, and this can be improved.

Spare me your fanboyism and discuss this topic like an adult instead of going "REEEEEE WHY DON'T YOU JUST BLINDLY LIKE THE GAME!!!"
