Text chat fixed yet?

I bought this game a bit ago to play with friends, since it seemed to be getting quite a lot of positive press, but was forced to refund it due to how the text chat worked. Which is to say, it didn't work, because nobody actually knew when text chat happened unless they hit the text chat key to read chat history. It didn't pop up for others when the chat was spoken in. Would love to give the game another try if this is resolved.

The text appears above the characters head, and you can't hear them if they are too far away, unless they shout it.

It appears briefly, and if you aren't looking at someone when they say it, it's lost. You have no way of knowing they spoke unless you hit the key. That's not how a text chat should operate. Proximity is fine, bad design is not.

I'm not defending it, just explaining it. Why you may have missed some chats.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so aggressive there. But yeah, it's unfortunate, because this game looks like it'd be a good time, but voice isn't an option for me, and the chat isn't really useable. Lost dozens of messages in the ~45 minutes I played, it was a confusing nightmare.

the few times I played with someone, I had to use mic because text chat was a mess. I hope they make it better. I recommend voice chat in the meanwhile, discord or something

It's not such a small detail for people who can't use voice chat. Because they're deaf/mute, because they're playing close to sleeping folks, because their mic is broken, etc.
It's pretty annoying that you have to find workarounds like Steam chat if you want to communicate something when a player is not looking directly at you.

its coop based proximity chat .. both text and voice, should be used to this type of in game communication by now if you play a lot of MP games as many feature it. besides the games only been on steam for a month, they haven't even pushed out a significant update yet so why refund so quickly ... were you expecting a finished game? i certainly hope not.

Yes because teaching yourself to press enter once in a while is so incredibly difficult. Ofcourse it's annoying but refunding a game over such a small detail (which is probably getting fixed) is just being a spoiled snowflake.
It's a early access for a reason.
