With a fully upgraded wolf set and Frostner you can go toe to toe with a troll and win... until then, a good bow and kiting, preferably with fire arrows is your best option.

So you're telling me that fully upgraded gear 2 tiers above the zone with trolls, will easily kill a troll? Who would have thunk it!

You can block a troll's attacks with a bronze shield no problem. Mine was level 2 (a single upgrade). Just don't use blunt against them. I was winning melee fights with trolls using a level 2 bronze axe in level 2 bronze armor before moving out of black forest.

Just get a basic bow and wood arrows, make sure you have some stam on you and just kite it around, while shotting at it. It'll take a bit but it's worth it to go after them early for the armor.

Fun fact: If you not beaten any boss's yet, you can still get the fine wood bow by chopping down trees and rolling the logs into the birch trees that are 'too hard to cut' with a flint axe. Repeat and you can break the birch trees to get fine wood. Do this to a few trees and use it to make the fine wood bow. Insta upgrade.

Trolls are weak to Pierce damage which is done by spears, bows, and Atgeirs. Parry with shield and stab with spear or atgeir for quick kill

Can lure a troll over to the trees for a faster way to do this. Riskier but the troll will do the work nicely.

Love how the theme of trolls is being maintained in this thread even though we are covering more and more subjects.

Any shield can block a troll swing except overhead swings... or you can use a bow and arrow.

You can block those too. Just can't parry them.

You can block one, but not two at a time and since The Ground is Shaking event involves two trolls I wouldn't advise attempting melee against them in bronze.
As for blunt, Frostner deals frost and spirit damage as well as blunt and that's why I said Frostner and not mace.
So, until later, bow and kiting is your best option.
