Boars and mating
So i tamed some boars, feed them and they made lil ones. they grow up. now i feed them all and they dont mate anymore. is there a cooldown or something like it that make my boars dont mate each other? and sometimes they mate and nothing happens. do i have to stay close to the area to them mate or have little boars?

  • The info in this post is on version 0.147.3
  • Creatures need to be in certain range around you to actually do stuff
  • When you are too far away then engine disables creatures to save performance...
  • When creature is disabled (INACTIVE), then only the stuff that can speeded up by sleeping is working
  • If sleeping in bed speeds up process, then "skiptime" command works too
  • Loxes are sooo fat you can't Harpoon them

Info about taming creatures:
  • Applies to Boars, Wolves and Loxes
  • They are slowly taming when they are happy (not hungry) and not alerted/frightened
  • Single piece of food is enough for 10min (each creature requires different food)
  • They eat if not alerted/frightened and food is on ground in 10m radius to them
  • Sleeping speeds up the "getting hungry" (so food lasts less than 10min)
  • They need 30min of taming to be fully tamed
  • Sleeping DOESN'T speed up taming :/
  • Stars don't affect taming in any way

Boars are frightened of fire, so keep them away from fire sources.

Boars eat Mushrooms and Raspberries
Wolves eat Raw Meat, Neck Tails, Raw Meat (don't eat cooked)
Loxes eat Barley and Cloudberries

Info about breeding creatures:
  • Applies to Boars and Wolves (Loxes can't breed yet)
  • Kid always gets the same amount of stars as "mother" (there are no male/female so I mean the one who was giving birth)
  • There is 66% to "make love" every 30s
  • Sleeping DOESN'T speed up "making love"
  • Can't "make love" when pregnant
  • Can't "make love" when hungry (10min of "not-hungry" per piece of food)
  • Can't "make love" when alerted/frightened by enemies
  • Can't "make love" when no partner in 3m radius (partner = tamed, not hungry, not pregnant, not kid)
  • Wolves have limit of 4 creatures in 10m radius, Boars have limit of 5 creatures in 10m radius.
  • Can't "make love" when limit of creaures is reached (it counts both tamed and not-tamed creatures, their kids, and it also counts the one who tries to make love) <- it's possible to end up with more than limit in pen if they get pregnant before limit and give birth after, or if pen is big enough for them to wander
  • If it "makes love" 3 times, it get pregnant
  • Pregnancy lasts 1min and then the kid is born
  • Sleeping speeds up giving birth... but it's just 1min lol
  • They can get pregnant multiple times (They are ready to "Make love" 30s after birth)

When I say creatures/partner I mean of the same type (aka Boars look at Boars/Piglets)
The "not-hungry" is shown as "Happy" when you look at creature

The 3m radius for partner sounds like trouble ;d
Especially that we can't hold 4+ in 10m range...

That's easy for wolves since you can move them around, but sucks for everything else

Info about growing up kids:
  • It takes 50min for kids to grow up
  • Sleeping speeds up growing up

Info about healing up creatures:
  • Boars heal 5hp per piece of food
  • Wolves heal 20hp per piece of food
  • Loxes heal 10hp per piece of food
  • Natural regeneration is set so pets recover 100% hp in 1H**
  • Sleeping speeds up it

**So If you want to heal 1/4HP, you just need to wait 1/4H (15min)

Reminder:
Single piece of food lasts 10min and sleeping speeds up getting hungry.

Info about Random Movements(wandering):
  • There are 2 points that mobs look at "Spawn" and "Patrol"
  • Usually... Patrol Point if set... Is in the same place as Spawn Point
  • "Patrol" has priority, if mob has Patrol Point, then will try to reach it when not alerted (both tamed and not-tamed)
  • If no Patrol Point and not alerted, then:
    • not-tamed mobs return to their Spawn Point
    • tamed mobs wander randomly around their current position
  • You can change wolves' Patrol Point by telling them to "Stay", their current position will become "Patrol Point" and they will wander randomly around this point
  • It seems only "Boars" out of 3 tameable creatures have chance to spawn with patrol point (yes, chance, totally random Boars don't have patrol point, but not random ones like the Boar runestone ones have patrol point set)

Info about Night-ONLY creatures:
  • Seems to apply only to wolves spawned at night
  • They eat only during night and afternoon
  • During the day they try to escape from player and despawn
  • If player is more than 40m meters away during day they despawn (Both tamed and not-tamed ones)
  • Kids don't inherit "Night-ONLY", so they won't despawn
  • Taming/Breeding works during day... But since they eat only at night/afternoon it's impossible to meet "Not-Hungry" requirement (unless they ate before day started)
  • I wonder if it's intended... It's single line of code to fix it for tamed ones only lol

Note Version 0.148.6 update:
The moment you feed "Night-only" creature at least once, the "night-only" tag will be removed.
So the Wolf will eat during the day and won't despawn when you move away

I'm too lazy to check if anything else changed in this update ;d
Patch notes mentioned only Night-Creatures so I looked up only this one

takes a day or so for fed adult boars to mate. Can only have so many per enclosure as well.
Wariat117 Mar 3, 2021 @ 11:48pm
there is limit of 5 tamed pets in the zone similar to size of half of white circle of workbench
once you have 5+ they stop breeding (the pregnant ones will still make piglets so you can end up with 8+ at the end)

Depends on the amount of space you have for them to live in. If you get an abyssal harpoon and pull 2 boars up about 50m above the pen, then place them on a small platform, with a hole at the back, the piglets will fall into the pen below and the pigs with breed constantly.

thats interesting. do u guys tested it or can u guys link me the source of the information? i mean, it makes sense and if there is some guide i would like to take a look, maybe i find more answers and ideas too. but thanks a lot, i already have a good area to test it out, maybe i build a breeding pen and connect it to my original area, so i can move pigs between and make a nice looking bridge. i waited last night till them breed, took a time, some didnt breed but now i have 9 and a pigglet in a small pen. ill try to feed them and see what happens, if not ill try the breeding pen.
https://imgur.com/wZVoyGf and do u guys know if its the same with the wolves?

you can use mods in order to display this information,
the problem is that it can change in updates and noone is going to check it everytime

don;t add anything to links on steam
steam will think that anything connected is part of link too, because of that links with () don't work

hmmm I didn't run the test on wolves, so no idea (I would assume it's the same)
For sure it's not a thing for Loxes since they don't have procreation added yet ;D

Will the pigs breed if you arent in render distance? My pigs are in a separate location and they seem to only have babies when I stand in render distance. thx

they don't breed
anything that is too far from player is automatically despawned and *sleeps* until player is back in range

I have just updated game and went on newest version 0.147.3 and stuff actually changed
Updated the post with new values

The only noticeable change is:
The fact that now Wolves don't breed when there are 4 or more creatures nearby instead of default "5"
