Lost a 2 star tamed wolf, a warning
So I spent about an hour and a half rounding up and taming a 2 star tamed wolf. Lots of sitting around and stressing about a base attack that never came to mess it all up.

Eventually....it was tamed. I just had to remind myself that ARK was WAY Worse when it came to taming. That game was a waiting torture game.

Anyways I told it to follow me, moved it to a pen. Told it to stay, threw down some meat and went off to find a mate for it from the group of wolves somebody had moved down to the beach. After a few attempts, i got one back to the pen.....the 2 star wolf was not there. I checked the entire base. Nothing, nowhere.

So yea if you tame a 2 star wolf that can only be tamed at night, DO NOT leave it or it can apparently despawn if you move from the area. Even after you tame it.

A nice long waste of time. This happen to anybody else?

Yes, it is reported as a bug in the official Valheim platform and, the devs have assigned to it the "planned" tag in the tracker.

So it will be fixed. By the way, I think this only happens with wolfs found at night.

Edit: another workaround is babysitting it until you have a 2-star pup which will not despawn.

Oof, wait to tame it and breed it a few times to keep the babies from despawning. That will be a few hours but I may consider it.

The 2 star wolf only shows up at night unfortunately.

I did not know that this was a known issue. At least it is acknowledged.

what type of ark did you play taming breading was able to be adjusted so waiting was not a thing unless you chose it so its way better in ark not worse taming was near instant for me and breading was very quick bc hey mutations are a pain

Our server had standard taming/breeding rates. We kept everything at base game. I remember back in the day, one of our Moose (mosorous) tames took 9.4 hours. That was a wake up call to me, it was not fun. There was a lot of tames that I looked back at and realized were just pointless time sinks. The horrendous amount of work and maintenance that went into care/feeding of an entire zoo of critters, daily. It just came crashing down on me like a reality hammer. I walked away and never looked at ark again. Not even vaguely interested in ever re-installing it.

So when I spent over an hour taming a 2 star wolf only for it to just disappear, it left a really bad taste in my mouth. A faintly familiar and horrible taste. When you end up with something like that you realize its not a game any more. It has turned into a very pointless job with 0 pay.

I lost two wolfs.
I had two follow me then I look back and one was gone. They also had a pup during our travels. I marked it then went back and the pup was still there no sign of mama though. I also lost the other one when I made it to my other base and let it roam free in the base
It's better if you tame a day time wolf to breed with the night time 2 star. That way you have a breeding partner ready and don't have to leave the 2 star, once you have two 2star pups you can kill the parents
