So I just found out by accident that you don’t need the wishbone to find Silver
I was exploring the mountains with a frost resist mead and use a stag breaker on a wolf and I noticed a “too hard” text pop up. That’s silver ready to mine.

Was this known already? I thought it was pretty cool either way.

Yeah the wishbone notifies you if something is near - it does not generate said something.

Silver is not that hard to see once you have found some/ Also I use the wishbone to find treasure chests as it will ping whenever we near something special not just silver. Found a couple of rigister stones thanks to wishbone :)

Yes. This was in fact mentioned in a Valheim Facebook group earlier today.
However the wishbone is about a million times quicker than running around and slamming the ground every 20 meters.

Faster yes, but you can carry more equipment inventory with you with out having the wish bone equipped.

Carry both, use wishbone till you find it then swap to belt.

On top of that, some silver nodes pop out of the ground so you can see them without using the wishbone.

Either way, searching for those rare above ground spawns or spamming for too hard notifications are much more time consuming and since weight is what matters when mining the free inventory slot would be backwards progress as far as time goes.

not really, theres no guarantee you'll even have silver spawn on every mountain. i've had a couple seeds now where i'd had to sail to a few of the closest islands before i found any. RNG makes it a crapshoot to begin with. however i do see the devs taking this as an exploit if it wasn't actually intended, because it throws progression off a little. you could circumvent Bonemass entirely getting silver earlier than you are supposed to.

Yeah some of the games progression has a 'soft' barrier, where technically you don't need the drop from the previous boss to progress. However the alternative is either more dangerous, or tedious to the point that it is unreliable/unrealistic as a strategy for progression.

The easiest is skipping Eikthyr, using the help of a troll to break copper/tin deposits before you can get an antler pickaxe. It is arguably more dangerous than dealing with Eikthyr, but in exchange you can save a lot of time. The only drawbacks are that you need a troll to spawn, and you can't lower the terrain to get deeper into the copper deposits.

Muddy scrap piles can also be found in the swamp without entering a single crypt, but just like silver deposits you are going to have a very poor time locating them without the help of a wishbone. Still they are not terribly plentiful, possibly submerged partially or fully below water let alone the terrain, and unlike with a crypt you are also dealing with rain and randomly spawning enemies.

Right now Moder's drop is the only one that is objectively essential for access to the current top-end gear, but the game isn't finished so that may not be so true later. But more likely this is probably the devs way of making sure that there's an upper limit to how much content can legitimately be skipped.

Arround 5% of the silver veins break through the ground
If you consider that you find silver nearly only in the huge Mountain biomes its still hard work to find one, but definatly not impossible

Some stik only minimal out of the ground, but sometimes its a larger part.
Look specially at step mountains, and the chance is a bit higher near dragon eggs
(based on arround 50 Veins i checked/found)

i ran around finding and marking silver, then came back later without the wishbone to mine it all

Moder drops dragon tears which opens up new crafting recipes for the artisan table and blast furnace so you can process black metal.
