Does any animal eat from your garden? Also, a seeding question(minor spoiler related to farming)
My pig pen is also one of gardens. I have not waited long enough to see if my pigs will eat from garden, I always pick and throw carrots, etc.

Another garden question: does anyone know if you leave a carrot too long without picking it up will automatically turn into a seeding carrot?

As long as the field is completely fenced in, no wildlife will enter to eat your crops.
As for your hogs, AFAIK they'll only eat what you feed them.
The carrots or carrot seeds will remain until you pick them. A carrot won't turn into a carrot seed unless you plant it as such.

No no animal wild or tame will eat your planted crops. Only boars can eat things like berries and carrots if you threw them onto the ground.

thanks for the feedback

I have been manually feeding turnips and carrots to my boars, but farming has been taking so much time. It's still easier that collecting food out in the wild.

Nothing can eat your planted crops, but hostile critters will attack and destroy them. I'm not actually sure if that includes untamed boars or not. Carrots and turnips are destroyed by attacks, regardless, Barley and flax are destroyed if not ripe yet, but harvested if theyre ripe (some people use area attacks to harvest them), and i'm not actually sure about onions, but theyre likely destroyed. Monster-"harvested" crops will eventually despawn if theyre not near workbenches etc, same as anything else on the ground.

Turnips vs carrots for boars- My strong impression is that turnips feed them and keep them happy very slightly longer than carrots do, based on how often 2 carrots will keep two boars in a 5-boar capacity pen happy long enough to produce 3 piglets vs how often 2 turnips will. Neither is 100% for keeping them happy long enough, but turnips seem to be about 66% vs carrots at maybe 20%. However, carrots are definitely easier to place correctly if you're using an autobreeder.

if planting and herding boars in the same pen, will the planted area take away from the breeding area. or will the pen area still dictate the breeding area?

They wont, but should your tamed animals walk around freely and fight with enemies inside your garden, chances are some of your crop will get destroyed when hit. This happened to me when a tamed wolf stood in between my crops and took hits from a drake attack.

Farming IS worth it tho. The food you can make is just so much better than just roasting something over a fire.

Don´t waste your crops. Just gather some berries, they´ll be more than enough for your boars.

"Don´t waste your crops. Just gather some berries, they´ll be more than enough for your boars."--totally agree. I've got a boar farm setup in a Meadows biome near one of those abandoned villages which is surrounded by raspberry bushes and the area can generate more than enough berries with a circle around the grassy meadow/woods area for 3 pens of 10-12 boars in each.

Farming takes up too much time/energy to waste on feeding anything but yourself...my wolf trenches are feed by my boar farm, etc...nice feedback loop with simply gathering 50+raspberries at a go. I'll gather 50+, toss 10 in each pen and bank the excess.
