Just me or do spikes have super low HP
Is it just me or do the defensive spikes have very little HP, meaning they are destroyed really fast making them pointless to build.

any way to make them stronger?

They are just there to soften up enemies before they start attacking your palisades.

You can add some effectiveness by building them on a slope going down and multiple rows, but the benefit is still limited and can be hard to setup in some cases.

Using a trench can remove the need for walls or spikes except for dealing with trolls, but can lead to some performance issues.

the plan was to place spikes at the bottom of the trench to kill anything that falls lol

yeah ill just not use them sigh

It is for this reason that I demolished my base and built an ugly island in the water. Not only are the spikes expensive to craft, have low HP, but you also have to run around like an idiot every morning with a hammer and fix them. And do not forget that for this you need a workbench, or rather a million workbenches along the entire wall.

yeah exactly.
looking for passive damage makers. For instance, like the cactus in minecraft.
Not so much looking to tend to my garden of spikes that would be located in the pit of death.

the first thing i did was dig a big moat around the base. nothing can get past. kinda op lol

They are also INCREDIBLY janky to place. Seriously what is the point of those restrictions?? Why cant I just slap spikes up against my wall? I guess if the devs dont want you to stack them (which would probably insta-kill most mobs), they could just make an exclusion based on previously placed spikes... but requiring spikes to ONLY be placed exactly at ground level instead makes them almost impossible to place on hilly terrain.

Ugh.

Also yeah a troll walked up and destroyed all my spikes anyways, and my palisade, and a huge chunk of my wall, while I was busy dealing with the other troll on the other side of my house.

Cant imagine fighting 3+ trolls on solo. Can understand why people just cheese the AI/terrain rules, instead.

That's easy... stop hiding behind walls.
Lead them away from your buildings if that's a worry for you. They aren't there for your buildings. They're after you.
You can easily walk backwards and shoot them until they're dead if you're out in the open.

I don't build many bases in the meadows. Also I'm old and can't into twitch games.

everything you build, and spikes are no exceptions, you can buff with wards. So build wards,
they got limited range, tho.

Yeah, spikes and also walls have a pathetic amount of health. They are cool though, and i still use the hell out of them but they are weak af

I agree with you on the placement restrictions 100%. I feel like i'd want to place them on the inside surface of the defensive walls, with the spikes clipping though to the exterior. in hopes that the wall could protect them.

should be rotatable in the x y z and less placement restrictions.. Myself i'd have it conform to the surface normals of the object, so that the spikes would always point outward from any surface.

On top of that! When the spikes deal damage, they also TAKE damage as a penalty.
go into godmode and walk into the spikes to observe how many hits you get and tell me that's not BS lol

And those spiked tops of the defensive walls do no damage.. that's why they sharp pro

Yup, they protect all of my portals and bee hives. They collect a healthy amount of resin and meat too from dead Greylings and wandering boars/deer/necks.
