Is it normal to get attacked all the time?

As in every 2-5 minutes? I am trying to build my first proper house in the Meadows, but I keep getting swamped by all kinds of Greydwarf (?) enemies. Based on the videos and streams I watched before buying I wasn't expecting to spend most of my time fighting enemies :S

You might be too close to a spawner or spawn location for them. Typically they only attack once a day or once every couple days for me. If you're chopping down a lot of trees, you'll attract them from much further out- Which is bad if you're building relatively close to the border of a black forest biome.

I would say decidedly abnormal for it to be as often as every 2-5 mins.

Are you close to any pine trees? If your relatively close to the dark forest they may be coming over to visit.

Are you building at night near black forest? Black forest is perfectly willing to relentlessly spawn greys on you at night.

Fairly certain you only need bonfires.

But theres some degree of uncertainty, debate and several threads over what actually prevents spawning. Seems nobody actually knows yet.

just hold a torch in your hand and they wont melee attack you anymore. or spam some campfires and they will stay away. greythingies dont like fire

It's just murpheys law. Every time you're busy trying to do something, the whole entire forest is like "hold my twigs"

if you want stop spawning mobe in your base you need workbenches and walls. that works.

Beyond attack events, nothing ever comes close to my walls.

Even at night i can see shamans and bezerkers standing in the distance too scared to come any closer.

Just place torches around your construction site if you don't wanna fight them. They won't attack you but it's annoying how they just run around all over the place when they see fire . You can kill them without losing any health that way.

I find the greylings are always popping up with every other tree I chop down. Less often when I simply pick up branches or just a bit ago leveling a lot of ground. I was gardening and a greyling came by. I built a fort next to a Black Forest pocket (and by pocket, I mean I could fit my dock home in it and not much else.) I've had all greylings and a troll spawn in this thing. Even after cutting all the trees out of it, they all spawned in. Thankfully I walled it off for protection, but still, it's awkward seeing armies come from nothing.

My home typically stays dark, so that may be my spawning problem, although skeletons paid my forge a visit after being here for like 100+ days? Like, why? Not a problem, just puzzling.

They spawn pretty frequently in Dark Forest territory and can aggro into the meadows.

Noise attracts enemies, so mining and tree cutting attracts stuff. Even deer barking because they see you and freak out can pull in more enemies.

it seems as though building near boss structures and other things make enimes spawn. ive have an issuie in my MP game the I keep getting attacked by mobs as my base is IN sight of elkthyr. now on my single player game i get the occsianl raid but thats diffrent and also they seems to have stopped after i walled off my base. just some things ive encountered.

i just die alot cuz im not very good lol. sometimes it feels like im being attacked constantly. for me at least, i know its because im running around and not upgrading or adding stuff like i could be.
