Final fantasy has always been a turn based game, until recently. They also have 3 Tactics games, which imho, are the best games of the franchise (particularly the first one). However, FF typically operates in 2D space. It's one line of characters against another, no movement. D&D operates in 3D space (and even sometimes 4D, with Haste and things).
you cant make underground dungions or underground forts / floating platforms or many other things minecraft is WAY better at doing such a thing.
THAC0 is whacko, the asylum probably
thaco is gone, its really old. D&D branched ... pathfinder uses the old rules but not thaco, but somewhere in the 3.0 ish era. the newer D&D is dumbed down to the point of being hardly recognizable -- I prefer pathfinder ruleset.
Yeah a lot of people prefer PF over it for similar reasons. But removing a lot of legwork in terms of math and systems, and focusing on playing the game, is hardly dumbing down. Streamlining an already good product to something better isn't really dumbing down, and as well a know from D&D 4th edition, simplifying is better than complicating. Going from the most hated edition to easily the most loved is a pretty big achievement.
I agree there for sure. It's definitely hard to strike a good balance
