Any advice on how to get my stuff back

After wandering too close to the plain shore while sailing? A couple deathsquitos (or whatever they're called), flew right over to the boat and got me...I was stuck on a rock and couldn't go anywhere, was dead almost immediately.

I have level 3 iron armor...and my next suit is level 3 bronze....do I really need to spend a couple days doing crypts to get back into shape enough to trek back out that way, or...is that one grave just to leave until later in the game?
Even getting geared back up is no guarantee...just two of those little bastards took me out quick.
Just wondering if any experienced players have any suggestions on a way I could...even kind of cheat my way back to my stuff? =P

Make another boat or raft, Grab a bow and some arrows and go back.

Find somewhere along the coast to land so that you can approach them on foot and not on your boat.

They have 10 hp. Aim and shoot them as they come at you in a straight line.

After they are dead go pickup your stuff and run.

Cheat with console commands or just move on and build more items. It's honestly not worth stressing yourself for some gear you can rebuild. Try and stick close to your spawn biome until you are ready to wander far away.

This happening while sailing makes it all the more difficult to manage.

When this happened to me I gave myself another death intentionally, kiting the mosquitos further away from the body which allowed me to get it and run into a safer biome. It was on the border of another biome so it was pretty easy to get to safety. And there were enemies in a nearby biome to take the agro giving myself a little extra time to run in and grab it.

A suggestion: build a tempoary shelter nearby with a bed so you can spawn close by and die within your death run timer to minimize losses if you aren't successful in picking up your loot.
Or use a bow to kill them from a distance.

In the end if you feel comfortable cheating and have no other options, you can use debugmode to fly and pick it up and they shouldn't agro onto you.

A deathsquito came after me once on my boat and I was like "well ggs" but it attacked the boat instead of me and the second time it actually died. When I checked the boat, it barely had any damage. Anyone else have that happen?

Might leave it for a bit but maybe put on your sneaky troll armor and see if you can get in there. Probably will die though. When I go to the plains now I pop a poison potion whether I feel like I need it or not. I try to stay focused and not mess around. Get in and get what I want and get out. With the mosquitos I have gotten pretty decent at hitting them on the way in. BAAAATTTTTER UP! Hehe. Always have that poison potion up though.

New boat, bow and arrows. Snipe from a distance. If you had bronze armor you should have troll armor as well which is almost as strong, put it on, bring shield and any weapon. If you get too close and aggro any, block and melee. They have only 10 health so almost anything will 1 shot them.

Why not just shoot from the boat? Safer than trying to get on the shore without being attacked.

Instead of going the cheat route, get hold of the Body Recovery Squad and have a bit of adventure.

Damn, just read your post proper; a couple of deathsquitos can be handled naked with a iron towershield and a wooden club/stoneaxe. Just be well fed and time your block and smash.

Be frustrated. Log out and log back in 10 minutes later. Build a Karve and sail naked, get lucky and grab your ♥♥♥♥ and leave on boat. or waste 30 min.
