wolf based food doesn't make sense for progression
i'm not getting any food off the mountain that is better than swamp food.. it makes no sense.. wolf meat is plentiful, so wolf jerky and cooked wolf meat are easy to get, but they don't offer an improvement when you are aiming to advance into the plains.. and some of it requires silver to produce, it doesn't really make sense

It's been a while since I tried, but they do swim around, and it's generally in a storm. I know the couple of times that I tried it ended up far enough away that I didn't want to swim it. Maybe I'll have to try it again.
Meat floats for ever , so doesnt sink , get close with your boat and jump to the water
Serpents are so easy to kill with ice arrows ( 3 or 4 )

All I ever carry is needle arrows. I have a few thousand made up, and a few hundred stingers if I ever need to make more. :-)

Get some Serpent Stew. It is really easy to make and you get minimum 3 hours worth of food just from one serpent kill. The hardest part is finding them but if you just sail around the ocean at night and/or during a storm, you'll find them easy.

Finding them is not a problem, but, if you're alone, how do you drive the boat in a storm and capture/kill them?
Have the harpoon with you, stay at the coast of the biomes, if you find one try to pull it with your bow, jump on land and harpoon it. :D so you also get the scales if you kill it on the land.

I don't see how sea serpents are a reliable, time effective source of food. I can spend an hour out at the ocean and not see a single one.

I've found that it's pretty easy to stockpile serpent meat just in the course of sailing to explore and deliver ore back to my home base. I don't eat it all the time- if I'm cutting wood or farming in a sessions I won't waste it on that. Heading out to do anything in swamp or plains, tho, the stew is near the top of my list.
