Do you have screenshots?
if so, my suspicion is you have something floating that worked but trying to branch off it is failing. Does it happen if you move over a few feet?
It could be your bottom piece is not actually touching the ground. I've found it always shows blue when you first place it

Instead, start by placing your corner vertical poles INTO the ground. That's the start of your support. Add more vertical poles if you wish and then join up those poles with horizontal beams to create a framework.
Once you have a secure frame, you can start placing the roofing support beams to the frame.
When all of your framework is complete, then you may place the pieces that frame will support, such as floor tiles, wall sections and thatched roof tiles.
I wish you success ;)
It can be tricky, but find da way to planting supports INTO THE GROUND.
Also, like cdog said: there can be a delay to the integrity colour. just give it 2secs to see if it starts changing colour. Also tho, feel free to give it a try if the object would be touching more then just the target: Like a roof to another roof tile, but has supports around insert.
Place floor, place small wall. Now get a support to snap to it and INTO the ground. There are probably other tricks, and it depends how high off the ground you want it. Once you got it figured out finish you grounding/main floor (how large you building will be.
I believe its best to get your frame of the build done before all all out. If its too wide you can do stairs in the center or a cooking area with supports leading to the roof. Stone 2nd floors likely will require iron beams for support, depending.
I believe too high is also an issue, although stone should let you build higher. I don't believe connecting pillars together does anything, just lets things look fancy (but should be if resting things along them).
sry, figured i just drop tips down while im at it.
I only vert beams as texture or if I got 2 walls up, at 1 wall even if the lot if floating it should stick... I know I use small vert beams to at least keep the building honest if its partially floating.
I dunno, its a odd one.
That is strange, it should work even if the floor piece is not blue (touching ground)
