Astroneers
ARK
There are other things I could draw on, and they would be obvious, but I'll leave them be.
Skyrim: Get a bow, win the game. Literally every opponent can be beaten with a bow, except for Bonemass. He seems to regen almost as fast as you can deal damage in some cases, so you really want to get in some mace hits.
Astroneers because of resource gathering and terrain manipulation.
ARK because of gear > to > trash progression. You spend all of your time fighting things to obtain resources to craft gear to be able to fight tougher things to obtain resources to craft gear to fight tougher things to .... and there's the core loop. There's also some structure logic which could be taken from a number of games, but ARK isn't a bad place to start.
Sea of Thieves comes to mind, although the ship controls are vastly easier / more comfortable than SoT. Not necessarily superior or "better", but definitely easier. SoT has more realistic individual-equipment control in ships which I find satisfying sometimes, tiring in others. The item-recovery logic from ship destruction is definitely from SoT though, and perhaps even improved on.
big fish cooking simulator //we spend a lot of time cooking...
arena (TES 1.0). //incredibly large generated world, graphics, more)
I find it funny the dev mentioned some Dark Souls influence, yet it's complete opposite with non-threatening tanky bosses that give no reward whatsoever, other than some useless buffs that last for a quarter of daytime, and allowing extra farming for next tier armor that will barely make the difference in contrast with next biome (just enough to not get one-shot).
The only real threat so far are star (not all but mostly wolves and other try-hard) enemies within an exaggerated pack on some unfortunate moments like a boss fight at night.
The rest of the game is cool and the reason why I kept playing.
Single-player only though.
The map / world / terrain and even some of the creatures are reminiscent of Planet Nomads.
Since the game is built on Unity engine it has some similarities but Iron Gate apparantly coded the game in Linux which has altered the graphics tectures how it renders the background to the forground gives it an atmoshere I havent seen in other survival games.
It as many worlds to discover in the form of Biomes like each is a world of different creatures usually 4 in different types in each biome, such as Swamp which has cripts and blood gore type creatures. Mountains which has snow sleet winged dragons wolves. Planes which has the Furlings the Lox beasts death mosquitoes. Then the easy biome Meadowlands where we learn to play fish , hunt deer kill or tame bore build amazing Viking homes.
The best part is we can also use one seed /map and then co op into a friends help out then logout and go back to our solo seed / map and keep our weapons and stats
A lot of people say Dark Souls, but I don't get that at all, other than it has large bosses that take 20 minutes to solo. It's not that same brutal, yet rewarding game play though.
Open world atmosphere (kinda like Oblivion/Skyrim)
Don't starve mechanics like:
- procedural map
- biomes (increasing in difficulty as you progress)
- boss and E tied to biome
- crafting/cooking/upgrading/grinding
- kiting
- challenging
- base building
- sailing
