The lead creator goes into detail about current combat and explicitly brings up Dark Souls.
Also, a Dev by the alias "Grimmcore" is a big Dark Souls fan and has talked about the influences of Dark Souls in Valheim's enemies/combat.
Ah thanks, that makes sense.
Yes sir, np.
I am the OP and did not state that. I was interested in buying Valheim and never seen it before I posted. I did end up buying the game and I think New World looks much better.
I was a little turned off by the comments I got from my question and the 1st 20 mins of game play. Will probably refund the game.
Incase you're unaware of this; there's a quantizillion vids on youtube if you make a search for Valheim.
Saves you from salty forum comments, playing and refunding, while it still gives you a good idea what it's all about, while drinking coffe and eating cookies.
You are the kind of person who really shouldn't be using Steam discussions then, these responses are completely normal for any game on here.
As for whether one is better than the other: New World does not seem like a very good game. I was interested in it when they first announced the game but after seeing and learning more.. Generic MMO game play, lifeless world, a major focus on PvP and not PvE. The combat looked fun until I found out it's just the Elder Scrolls Online copy pasted.
Valheim is not very good in terms of visual presentation however the game play is excellent and the game is definitely worth the price. Huge open world, good boss fights, the progression makes sense, a building system that allows for some creativity, and on top of that it's actually fun to play with friends.
However, don't judge a game by the actions of some players outside the game.
I know nothing about new world but if it's an MMO you can't compare the games. They're both 'survival' style worlds so they will seem similar to those who haven't played a lot of open world/survival games.
Valheim's gameplay is more adventure focused. Linear progression, goal oriented.
I assume new world will be more open and focused on player interactions so the gameloop will be entirely different.
To the arguments that it's just a soulless company spitting out a personality-less game, I guess we'll see. I'm no 'amazon' fan but you do realize the employees of the company aren't any different than employees of any dev company. They're trying to create their dream with code. They just have worse bosses and it's always easy to tell someone else to quit their job and take less pay because you want them to.
