Do fishes ever come back?
I have been (over) fishing an area and fishes do not seem to come back once fished.

Is there a way to do "sustainable" fishing, or even better, fish farming?

All other mobs respawn, so I would be surprised if fish dont. Maybe go rape a different part of the environment for a while. Have you tried deforestry followed by strip mining? Its a nice one-two combo and it leaves permanent scars.

Stone plus hoe equals no holes. Cultivator plus tree seeds equals a forest.
Plus I find dead fish a lot in one area and the fish always come back. I have yet to find a fish recipe so I don't eat them as stews and soups are on my menu

They come back. It just takes a week or so, pretty much the same as other animals.

Ok thanks. Ill check harder then.
Pretty sure the one spot i overfished has been empty for weeks, but might not have surveyed a large enough area to draw proper conclusions

Just got Valheim after all the hype and it's good fun. Major gripe though is that it isn't made with left-handed player in mind AT ALL. Being able to properly customize the keys (E.g. jump being enter or the keypad being shortcuts) can't be that difficult to implement.
find a island in deep ocean, check for fish if fish is yes go fish, if fish is gone go dip on the water bigger fish will spawn aka sea serpent, jokes aside check around and always have multiple spot, or if your lazy make a ram style moat, when storm occur check it later, you will have fish for dinner a ton of it.

Lol I find this funny as I still think it should be vice versa. I find a lot of right handed people don't like to write on the keyboard. I am left handed, but old enough that I wasn't spoiled. Everything was the same for everyone. So I use the mouse with my right hand and WASD with my left. I find it is really easy to strafe, crouch, roll, jump, sprint as all of those are handled by my Left Hand. Sorry if this doesn't help you, I just feel like you should give it a whirl :)

Strange topic to say that... But yeah, hopefully we get fully customizable keys at some point.

Then we could re-map the hook and reel inputs. (there, back on topic!)

being a "lefty" why don't you have a programmable keyboard for MANY of the games that have this same issue? Wife is left handed and plays all the games the same on her programmable.

Very curious segway in a topic about fishing.

To OP: yes they do. I fish off my dock consistantly. The same 2 tuna always respawn with the smaller trout lookin fish. Usually 2 or 3 in game days or a reload of the world. Not sure what exactly the requirement is to respawn.

Are there different fish types? They all look the same to me but that doesn't say much. Is that why some give more and others less fish pieces? (I assumed it was random 2-4)

its 1-4 and there are larger and smaller ones at the very least, could be random but seems like the farther you pulled it in the higher the chance at 4 ??

Because I am in my thirties and I only know what has been. Every keyboard in my entire life was just a keyboard so I am not going to relearn 20+ years of using a keyboard because of that. I mean I eat with my fork in my left hand and my knife in my right. i only bring up that last bit as I was watching a tv show and someone was pretending to be someone else so they switched around the knife and fork because the person they were immitating was left handed. It made no sense to me.

Anyways to each their own as they say. I mean I didn't see any colour blind options either so you are gonna have to give it some time
