Has anyone tried to play without a bow?
Just curious if anyone has tried a play through without using a bow at all?

Currently I use a bow quite a bit, but I have gotten rather good at throwing a spear around. So I am wondering if it is possible to go through the game without using a bow at all.

Some of the bosses might be a bit more difficult (mainly Moder which wold become a game of hide-and-seek until it landed each time so you could melee it), but it might be a fun experiment.

Going to give it a go on my next play through.

So has anyone already done it and if so any pointers?

I would like to know, how you are going to kill hatch lings/drakes without a bow, i dont see spears been to usefull since they dont stack. Other wise i'm sure its very doable to not use a bow at all.

Love the bow, can't imagine playing without it. Hopefully the incoming bow nerf the devs mentioned in a recent interview isn't going to be too drastic.

You can actually take down the drakes with a spear/javelin (I say javelin because in game spears really behave more like a javelin). You just need to wait until they hover just before they do their breath attack.

And yes, I agree bows are really great especially with the different arrow options (and of course the Draugr bow with the added poison) so playing without one is just a challenge that might be interesting.

Its more the aim i'm worried about when it comes to the spear throw.
And the non stacking of spears.

I have not done an explicit 'no bow' run, but i try to keep it to a minimum, overusing the bow just makes the game boring.

The main reason i haven't done a "no bow" run is that, given that there are situations where you "require" ranged weaponry (Drakes, underwater archers) keeping to it doesn't strike me as making the game harder, just more tedious, ie the enemies are no more likely to kill me, it would just be a hassle trying to kill them.

There's a Twitch streamer Fengrush who is doing a hardcore run without using bows and boss buffs. He's almost at the last boss at this time. You might want to checkout his videos on Twitch. He uses a spear.
