Troll destroyed 50+ hours of work
Is there a way to disable trolls from breaking player built tiles? as the title says I had a troll destroy my base despite having a perimeter fence with spikes. ive had trolls destroy a build before but never this bad. its frustrating to see all the intricate detailed builds ive put my heart and soul into just destroyed. why even rebuild it just to be destroyed again? at that point why even play the game.

I dont have a single moat anywhere ... Attacks on your base occur when you are at the base, and when it happens you need to go outside and deal with it to keep the mobs from breaking your builds... even if it's just keeping their attention and running around the red area until the event is over and they all disappear.... Also could just go out and fight and get some free XP and materials that just got delivered to your front door.
Any time I get a base attack, I immediately run out of my base to a nearby open area so that the monsters don't attack anything trying to get to me, because I HATE rebuilding stuff in any building game.

In practice that leads to a somewhat stupid situation where the best response to an attack is to abandon your home and defensive structures, rather than actually use walls for the reason walls exist, but that's what seems like the best choice to me given how things work. Which I'm guessing isn't what the devs wanted when they implemented base attacks, but fighting in the open is clearly the far more convenient choice than getting your base wrecked. So really, I feel like the base attack is an idea that seems pretty cool on the surface but doesn't really work in practice, as long as monsters are more of a threat to the player's hard building work than the player's life.

you need to make your construction troll proof or it will keep happening.
there are multiple ways to do this.
1) your personal island. Mobs won't spawn within some radius of your benches, so a small island is more or less immune to enemy attacks. Double so if you also follow the next ideas.
2) lofted -- use the hoe to make a raised area, about troll head high, big enough for all your needs (20x20 2x2 floor tiles for example is a good bit of space for base and farm and bees and all). This takes a lot of effort but one click raises terrain to the last height once you get one hill built. you can run up the crafted terrain to get back up.
3) moated. dig a ring around your territory, water filled is optional, but wide and deep enough that nothing can get over it and anything in it is stuck for good.
4) build glitching. The AI can't manage to cross tiny gaps that you can walk or jump across with ease. bridges / walkways / terrain manipulation / etc can create impassible mob blockers.

there are other things too, but these ideas will keep you safe. I advise you to study each one in a guide if you don't understand what to do, there are videos and images of these ideas all over.

here is my hoe-built lofted castle. The ground work could have been better, but the worst they have done to me so far is force me to repair one or two wall blocks due to a ranged attack.

For number 2, you mean I just need to raise the one tile as high as I want it, then stand on that tile, and a single raise will raise the surrounding ground to match?

All monster ai needs a rework, the monster pathing is very bad.
stone walls will work, troll won't be able to break it. also build your base one side facing see or cliff then you only need to worry about the other side defence
Easy, just kite them away from your structures and/or build them troll-proof, it's not difficult with a little prior planning.

Would love to know how you get wood arrows to hit for 200+ damage..

Moat then stone wall...they cant break stone easily.

ikr, sounds like some mods or other external forces as work, needle arrows, 80 bow skill, and a rank 3 Draugr fang hit's for about 50-80 tops. That would sound about right for when I parry a troll and use a blackmetal sword rank 4 to slice them down in maybe one combo.

Why even get up in the morning, you just die eventually.
u dont even need to fight the trolls. just get aggro and walk in circles naked.
you building skills have to be special if they can destroy 50 hours of work in under 2 minutes of raiding.

ahh and also, they run away after the event ends, and even if not. crude bow level 1 and 30 woodarrows kill a troll easily, without need to shoot constantly.


if you kill one of the 2 trolls another in the eventime, another will respawn directly.
Its called "immersion". :o

I don't use mods i just play the base game. It takes 3 wooden arrows fired from my max rank Draugr bow to kill a no star Troll, my bow skill is level 100.
That sucks. You shouldn't kite trolls into your base.

Obviously not under a normal set of circumstances and a highly unrealistic goal to achieve.

With a rank 4 DF and a bow skill of 82 it still takes 6 shots, with allowing the poison to tick from a wooden arrow. Surely if you're counting a sneak arrow, and one of your other shots coming from a knockback... yea... possibly 3 wooden arrows... again, that's with the strongest bow in the game ranked to 4(which would take a beginner 75-100hrs of play time to achieve), with max level bow skill... sneak attack and a random chance at a knock back follow up shot... you can use the weakest arrow in the game to 3 shot kill a troll...

By that time trolls aren't a threat and you can just face tank them without needing to block, dodge, or anything of that nature... they hit for 18 damage or so with their strongest attack....
