Of course everyone knows what carrots are by looking at them. But this could give devs the opportunity to educate people by making the carrots purple.
A change like this is better suited towards being a mod, imo; Something you have to manually opt into if you're aware of the history of carrots and want something that's more true to history.
So you have problem with carrots being orange but... 5 meters blue trolls are fair game?
Riiiight.....
Just pretend that turnips are fat purple carrots - problem solved, no need to bother teh devs.
Me, an intellectual: "They used to be purple long ago."
Purple carrots irl are supposedly the most healthy variety of carrot.
Worry not, I do like the trolls. (Family of yours?)
Except, a mythical creature in a 'historic' fantasy game makes sense because ancient people believed in them.
Carrots have nothing magic to them, and it is simply a matter of having the correct biome.
You would not have corn and potatoes in a viking game, would you? Not unless such game allows you to sail to a land far away across the ocean and discover them there.
It's not like changing carrots from orange would make them significantly less recognisable among all the other not-carrot-like items in the game either. I don't even think you can find carrots except those that you harvested yourself, only making it less of a hassle to discern what they are. The most similar looking item would be the turnips which are very distinguishable by their dimensions alone.
I imagine because if they were purple the majority of people would make fools of themselves calling the developers dumb for not making them orange.
Edit: Heh, yeah, should read other responses before posting.
Not only would that be really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool, it would be historically accurate, too. See viking settlements in NewFoundland.
Fish tacos when? Tortillas made from corn and you already got fish. Wait, we already got fish wraps. Nevermind.
