does mining speed ever increase?
Just doing a bunch of copper and tin mining.

the tin seems to break when you hit it at a sensible level, but the copper you have to slowly hit it like seven times before it breaks. Each swing of my pick takes roughly 2 seconds if you swing with a delay as to not burn out of stamina. This means it takes on average 14 seconds from the moment you begin to hit the node to when it breaks and you get 1-3 copper ore.

that's roughly 11 minutes of hitting a note to get 50 copper ore.

Now i've noticed that there's not much difference in pick quality for this hit time, as in a copper pick doesn't seem to break the rock any faster. I assume the amount if time it takes to swing and break a rock is lowered as your pick skill goes up.. but still feels like it takes forever.

noticed this first day, but was hopin' to find something in-game that answers this.

Basically how do you make mining faster?

and bruh, the volume on the hit sound tho

Better tools / higher skill levels make mining easier.

The skill also reduce stamina cost which is also a big time saver.

Better tool definitely helps; do not neglect it. Antler might get the job done and can be repaired at a workbench, but a decent copper pick is way better.

Do you know by how much?
I guess i could just use console to spawn items and raise skill to test the improvement. beauty

Both tools (type and upgrade level) and skill make mining faster. The more damage the pick does the less swings to break stuff.
And mining is loud because, well, mining is loud and attracts enemies.

Sorry I don't but a copper node does not take me 11 minutes I can tell you that much.

The skill ONLY effects damage, 1% per level. People just think it effect stamina because more damage= less hits= less stamina drain.
So with the exact same tool a skill lvl 100 effectively mines twice as fast as lvl 1 because they are doing twice the damage.

Think of each section of ore having HP.

Tin and Obsidian have one section, Copper, Scrap Piles and Silver have several sections.

When you hit it with a Pick Axe, the type of Pick Axe has a limit on how much damage it can put out to those HP.

Lets say for arguments sake, that your average copper deposit section, has about 35-40 hp

The Antler is very weak, can only hit for about 5 or so damage. Its mostly a 'put you on' tool until you pick up a Bronze Pick Axe.

The Bronze Pick axe hits for a lot more damage than the Antler, thus it does its job faster and you can mine everything before you get to the Mountain Biome resources.

As you might expect, the Iron Pick axe has a much higher damage output than the Bronze, so if you used a Iron Pick axe on copper it would only take a few hits compared to its predecessor.

Of course, the Bronze and Iron versions can be further upgraded to level 4 and the overall performance is linked to your skill in Pick axe

Hope this helps

That paired with better toold that do more damage overall means faster mining, makes total sense thanks for the explanation.

There is another element that people here haven't mentioned, the angle your hitting the ore also impacts the damage you deal to it, standing on top of it and swinging down onto it seems to do the most per swing, I was able to hit well over 15 a hit at times this way with the antler pickaxe. If I was to hit it from below, I was only doing 5-10 a swing, if that. So direction your hitting the ore actually matters. For best results stand on top and swing down onto it. No idea why the devs bothered with this mechanic but it does make sense, that swinging down onto the ore would do the most to it, due to gravity and time the swing can travel.
