Mountain question
I've covered lots of ground in my 70 hours of playing, and only found 2 small areas of mountains. Are mountains always constructed like this, or just bad luck on my end?

Also, the 2 mountains I covered did not activate the wishbone at all. Is silver extremely rare or something?

I had a hard time finding suitable mountains at first, because what is really just a tall hill seems like a mountain from the boat. Then I finally saw what a real mountain looks like from the sea. Big mountain biomes look enormous compared to hills and small mountains.

Bad luck. There are giant swaths and little blips same as all the others. And the world is huge, farther out you will find a large one.

The big thing about mountain is its often in the middle of plains.

There are many mountain biomes in every map seed.
And then there are different sizes of mountains, some of which are huge and make others look like small hills by comparison.
If you're hunting for silver, look for the larger mountains and then get to the summit areas. That is usually where your wishbone will start pinging. The presence of a Stone Golem is also a good indication that you're in the right area ;)
In terms of the world map, travel out from the centre, past the black forests and then past the swamps and then look to the horizon for large peaks when you've travelled at least halfway to the map edge.
Keep searching and you'll find it even if you have to travel far and wide ;)

PS. finding silver was much easier than finding the vegvisir stones which pinpointed the location of Moder. That took me at least 11 mountains before I found one.

A quick tip for silver hunting is to look for obsidian rocks. If there is no obsidian, the mountain isn't high enough for silver.

Depends on your seed, my singleplayer map has lots of tall mountains with lots of silver and my dedicated server has almost none so far, but there is always some, just sail around till you can see the tall mountains in the distance, if it's basically just a large hill with snow, it won't have silver.
obsidian is the best way to tell if the mountain is high enough for silver, and a good rng. if you found a big mountain with obsidian silver is quite common.

Bad luck I found a mountains hill biome so small you could barley put a shack on it. I do think the game needs to generate biomes to be bigger than they are. Because half the time exploring many of the biomes i come across are just too small for the resources you need to spawn in.

Well this is nuts. I've spent over an hour sailing around looking for mountains with nothing to be found. And the further I travel, the more I'll have to consider how much travel is required with medals since they can't go through portals.

get off your starting continent and sail around. you will find mountains so large you can see them from the ocean. some are so large they go above the cloud line.

So even if it's RNG...it's expected that you'll have to travel far to reach mountains?

Well that's what happens with unknown randomly generated maps. You could go 2 hours or something north and find nothing of what you're looking for. Meanwhile you could have maybe gone 5 minutes south instead and found exactly what you're looking for.

There's no way to know unless you either explore or use some sort of map tool to find what you're looking for. It's the same in any game with these randomly generated maps like Terraria, Minecraft, Don't Starve etc.
