A word of warning on Nitrado Hosted Valheim and VPLUS

The second update to the VPLUS and the second time Nitrado wiped our inventories and prevented anyone from joining the server without a default matching config. Fixing the server so that people can connect will lose everything in their inventories and armor, trinkets, etc using the equipment and quickslots mods. Doesn't take much to get people salty and losing your armor, weapons, and everything you were carrying sucks bad. I killed the server and I cannot even copy the world files and restore it somewhere else, it's just a total loss. (You have no access to where these files are stored) It took 2 days for Nitrado's sole technical support person to get to me..I gave up after two hours as next in line on the phone, my battery had had it. Word to the wise, this has got to be the very worst in the industry and I hope I can save at least one person the headache and $13.00. Updating vplus changes the layout and values in the newly generated cfg. If you dont back it up, it's NOT overwritten and no one will be able to connect without you deleting the cfg and letting the server restart and generate a new one. This loses everything it seems, armor, strength belt, wishbone, and anything in your inventory if your using more slots and the equipment and quickslot mods that are popular. If you restart the server after renaming the cfg to.old you can put the new values in, and restart the server again. Everyone can update their vplus or connect as usual and they get the updated cfg from the server that fits what they had in their inventories and all is shiny and bright. Sadly Nitrado updates vplus when and as they please for you and repeatedly broke our game. That's all I can do, you were warned.

I´d generally avoid Nitrado. Lost a lot progress there on a 7 days to die server. Three times actually. Once it was 2 RL weeks of progress.

There is a reason they are one of the cheapest hosts....

My server is at G-Portal, but I have now removed V+ there as well. 2 days around tried because the server just did not want as well as one went on the server, the server went offline, blame alone was V +.
Have now V + completely replaced with individual mods and see the thing runs like oiled. V+ makes too much stress with other mods because incompatible, that sucks.

We don´t have any problems with G-Portal and vanilla games so far, but you can´t change your server to another game.

NItrad let´s you change the game whenever you want. With G-portal you are stuck with the game for the time you hosted the server.

Still won´t use Nitrado again, lost way too much ingame progress there, no mods, all vanilla (7 days to die). Will do some research for other good hosters that let you change the game.

I host my own server using the AMP software on an I5 7400 (3Ghz) with 16Gb of ram running ubuntu linux. 3 of us play on it all the time, at the same time.

The only issue we have with it is once in a great while (about maybe once every 3 days) it will randomly kick one or all of us off, but I'm chalking that up to the game being in beta still, or it could be because I almost never reboot the server (or the pc for that matter, lol).

Granted, the AMP software is not really needed, but it does make setup/editing/backups/deleting game servers an absolute breeze, not to mention it handles quite a few of different type of game servers.

Nitrado servers are the worst, same ones that are used for Ark Evolved public servers, and anyone that had ever tried those knows how bad they can be for stability and crashing.

I second this, I also havea server at G Portal and you can change the game anytime.
