I think neck refers to how they can puff their neck or flourish it. I never understood it either until I googled "neck lizard" and was greeted with the lizard that resembles the dilophosaurus from Jurassic Park.

Dinner.

I think it may refer to Näcken/Näck and you'd probably want to avoid non-english characters in a game so you end up with Neck. Making this assumption purely based on the fact that the developers are from Sweden and Näcken is a water spirit in Scandinavian folklore...

Just as I was ready to click post I made a quick search on Wikipedia and listed as a water spirit was this: "The Neck (English) or the Nix/Nixe/Nyx (German) are shapeshifting water spirits who usually appear in human form."

They're called that because of the way that they are.

Thanks for looking that up! Makes a lot more sense now,

Im guessing lizards were more kosher than naked women coming out of the river to kill you.

that's what their called because that's the thing you want to aggressively hold onto whenever you make the horrible mistake of building a base anywhere near water ever

But maybe one of these naked women could hand me a sword that makes me invincible? Oh wait... wrong lore...

Never saw 2 legged lizards personally so they might as well be called necks.
TilusBlazk 24/mar./2021 às 21:17
could also have something to do with the creature known as "necker" and given how similar that word sounds to another, shortening it may allow the devs to avoid criticism from reeturds.

"It's a neck."
"A neck of what?"
"Just a neck."
"So it doesn't have a body."
"Of course it has a body."
"And a head?"
"Sure..."
"But we just call it a neck."
"Right."
"So do we collect their necks?"
"No."
"Do they even have necks?"
"They are necks."
"With bodies. And heads."
"Yep."
"So do we collect the bodies?"
"No."
"Do we collect their heads?"
"Not really."
"What are they for?"
"We collect their tails."
"...I'll just show myself out."

This game could use some nymphs, horror-style.

That tickled me far more that it should have.
