Would you consider it cheating to play on a easy seed?
I played for 25 or so hours and quit but want to play and start all over but found a seed where everything is near would you consider this cheating the game and no a real play threw or are only the world and server hopping and fast loot transfer be considered cheating?

the world is generated randomly, it might seem easy at first but maybe it would be harder than what you would expect later ingame. but in any case, I wouldn't call that cheating, unless you generate several words and test each to see which easy to play on.

The real question is: do you?

Because whatever you do in your own game is totally fair in my book and you should not let anyone judging you for it.

Whatever makes you have fun: go for it.

What is "cheating" in this context?
AllOutWar76 Apr 5, 2021 @ 10:16pm
If you used the map generator to check out the seed and found out things were close, then that's cheating. If you explored the map and found everything yourself then it's not, you just got lucky.

Either way, it doesn't matter, our opinions shouldn't take away or add to your enjoyment of the game. Just play the way you want to. It's a non competitive game so just have fun.

You didnt heared it, we all are cheater
* Cheaty Seeds
* Mousemacros
* Abusing Savegames
* Using savegames
* Playing not Permadeath
* Make screenshots with help of console commands
* Going overequipped in low level Biomes
* Making inpenetrable walls from soil
* Skilling higher than 30
* Using weapons at all
* ....

Hell there is no cheating in Singleplayer. And its completly on you if you apply cheese.
I Often add some Gouda and Tilsit only Harz Cheese is too much for me.

How close or far the bosses are and / or biomes is going to only affect how far you have to travel, which is going to change things time-wise, but it doesn't change the game progression or difficulty ( or non-difficulty once you learn what to do . Who cares if you looked at the map or copied a seed you saw someone else recommend... You are still going to get the whole game experience, just perhaps in a bit shorter version due to close proximity of important milestones.

Well, you've looked at the seed, which is not part of playing the game, so yes. No brainer, obviously it's cheating. It's like looking through the deck and knowing the order of cards when playing poker.

Closer to looking through the deck to play solitaire, actually... if you play solo

I've peeked at a seed before playing it. It takes many, many hours to realize you hate the seed you started playing. There are some truly abysmal seeds, too. Perfect for a hardcore run, but not for casual. My main concern was a decent starting island size and Moder actually existing.

The possible problem with any kind of cheating or seed-peeking is you are potentially ruining a huge part of what compels a person to keep playing. You really have to limit it or it can completely ruin your experience and as a result, you just stop playing.

Do what you have to but be careful you don't cheat yourself out of bothering to even play.

Assuming you can find the bosses, I don't think their distance matters much.

How many crypts in the first swamps that are nearby, the trader's location...those matter a lot and will dramatically change your game. Getting the strength belt early is a major, major boon, and the amount of iron you pull in early will really change the game.

In case I wanted to do what some odd people consider cheating is there a list of good seeds out there somewhere? I don't want a fully revealed map, but someone I can trust saying "this was a cool seed" would be spiffy.
However I haven't even found the third boss yet so getting a bit ahead of myself :P

it is a sandbox game so play it however you want

Cheats are things you either do with the command console or via mods. Using out-of-game means to discover the geography of your seed is also cheating.

That's it. If anyone has a problem with you using anything in the game normally, and sometimes coming out on top as a result, they are just being sad/salty.

It really is subjective and you should play the game the way that you will enjoy the most. Don't worry about what others think just have fun. I played all the way through my first seed and when I did that I jumped on map generator and found some seeds with maypoles to build around. I am sure some people would call that cheating but don't care am having fun getting the most of my twenty bucks.
100% cheating.
