Rock formations that look manmade
I occasionally some across rocks where it looks like they have been ‘built’ into some sort of structure i.e. a few flat upright rocks with flat rock/s on top.
Are these of any relevance or just scene dressing?

poke around dig under that structure a bit, you might find something
maybe a pile of bones.. maybe some amber and a necklace......

Both?

Mainly just "points of interest" some are just for show and some might be hiding buried chests, bones, or other goodies.

I assume I use the pickaxe to 'dig'?
I'm reluctant to dig as it is right by the location for my new base and as I am still useless with a hoe, I fear ending up with a great big ugly hole lol.

Yep, pickaxe to dig, and it will leave you with big trenches you'd have to cover, fill in, or ignore. Generally I haven't found anything worth the effort of uncovering though...

aye the pickaxe is the tool for that job... you can however fill in that hole with your raise ground tool with the hoe after you've dug for some treasure.
i think you need like 4 stone to raise terrain once.. it aint much..
then you can smooth it up and make it pretty with the hoe

OH NO! If I dig it all up, will that prevent future spawning?

If it's the ones i'm thinking about it's the one that has bones, valuables and spawns skeletons at night. Nothing special really.

there are many of these.
crypts and troll caves and all appear to be worked.
graves, following real life traditional viking sites, have many thin flat rocks stuck in the ground an make an 'obvious' graveyard or single tomb.
the plains, it is implied that the furlings there make stone shrines and such
and you find remains of stone buildings, ruins, archer towers, small castles, or sometimes just a foundation or stray rock-block (square building block that you will recognize once you have a stonecutter ).

the graves sometimes have treasure chests. its usually a large effort to dig them up, and the reward is currently underwhelming as money and vendor trash items have no purpose after a while (you need some for the vendor). I have 4 or 5 chests of vendor trash and many stacks of coins without having to dig for more...

When you flat the ground with your hoe it should destroy enemy spawn entites.
I am not sure if digging does anything to the enemy spawns.
That's good to know - thanks :)

Sometimes. Come back with the Wishbone and you can sometimes find buried treasure. You can find it without the wishbone, but that requires a lot more guessing and digging.

If you plan to build a shelter there, just include a crafting bench and nothing can spawn within its radius.
