Are all mountains in the Plains, or am I just unlucky?

So I'm sailing around my map after defeating Bonemass looking for mountains and I keep running into plains surrounding them, or they are just a little snow covered hill with absolutely nothing on it other than the freezing debuff.

Oh and Turnips do they exist? 3 different swamps I have slogged through getting Iron from and I have yet to see them.

You're unlucky, my starting point is from waliking distance from the mountain. Don't even have to go through black forest to go there.

Not really moutain biomes are random and there is even a south pole and north pole the the game I guess. Which has ashlands and ton of mountains.

Is is random with the map seeds.

I have had mountains border Black Forest usually and few bordering meadows and Plains.

While out exploring in a boat I placed markers in directions I could spot mountains in the distance.

Also while mountain areas can be small they can pack quite a bit. I had one in my last seed that was pretty small but it contained five silver veins which was more than enough to upgrade all my gear.

Just be REALLY careful when mining the silver because you HAVE go top down and outside to in when mining or you lose ore. This is because when floating ore chunks (not mined) fall they will not give ore. Instead you get a message saying "too hard" which prevents the silver from being broken up like copper does.

With My luck then there will be a mountain on the island next to my starting one in the middle of some Meadows right next to my base in the direction I didn't explore.

Before I go and try to find that though I have to figure out how to get my ship and gear back from where a deathsquito killed me. Do I sail naked in a raft all the way there for like an hour, do I take my Karve and backup gear and risk dying to a sea creature. In any case I think I'm done for the night and will figure that out in the morning.

I had that happen while retrieving a corpse. I got one shotted by a deathsquito. I wrote than corpse off because if it one shotted me once in the ocean then it will do it again. Unless the spawn changes.

As long as you got like bronze 3 armor the mob will only do about 30 damage. troll armor (32 rating) you take about 70 damage. So you just need to be ready to hit it and have good food buffs.

Same here, almost all the mountains on my seed are surrounded by plains.

nope sometimes they are partially plains partially other biomes liek swamp meadows or black fores try sail around island wchich have mountains you proly will find other biomes on its edges.

No, I regularly see mountain biome nestled within a black forest. Turnip seeds are few and far between it seems but they do exist in the swamp, just keep looking. I had to start my turnip farming with only 3 seeds and had to build up from there.

My starting island has massive mountains surround by meadows. In fact Moder ended up closer to spawn than the Elder.

So while sailing to get my body/boat I got a little off course and discovered a new island that has what looks like a mountain in the middle of a meadow. I know where I will be heading after I get my gear back.

Yeah as I said earlier, when you are out on the ocean you should be placing markers off in the unexplored area to mark you saw an island or a mountain. That way later when you clear your current areas you aint gotta try to remember the other islands you saw. Plus it can help in base placing decisions because you may want a port.

It's completely random. I found mountains between Meadows and Black forests all over my seed. On the other hand, very few on the Plains biome.
