Buy the belt first. Then buy everything else.
no screen shots, it is also waterproof, and i would hurry if i would you, Haldir all ready sold
out everything its just one left.
Samoth, the belt is a massive boostcto gameplay, definitely buy that first. Frankly, it's worth it to hunt the trader rather than living without. You will burn just as much time or more humping mats around with a lower carry limit, than you will looking for him. Just sail around all the nearby islands till he shows up, bonus points you now know your map better and can pick a better spot for a main base.
I kinda scoffed at using carts and roads until I actually did it. Which in my current game I still have been unable to find Haldor. Yet I easily cleared swamps with roads and using carts to haul iron.

I will make an attempt soon. It's just I don't really have a need for any of it yet. The weight belt would kinda be nice, but only really for my groundskeeper at the fort, So I can pick up 2 extra wood piles.... :) it's what I'd use it for. My toons when in combat set-up, have almost all weight left. Barely holding anything, maybe weight 40-50... So, the belt ain't gonna help me adventure. It won't keep me alive, so it's pretty useless for me atm. to be honest, I really don't care about the 'story' at all. To me it's 'over-there', tbh, I could completely care less about completing the game, I honestly have about 0 desire to grief myself. Likely, I won't finish it, or I won't even try. As soon as I get all of the building materials, I don't care what happens in the game. All the forsaken can jump off a cliff for all i care. I just want to build. If it had a open setting for that , I'd pay double.
I wouldn't have even engaged the Stag, if not for the Pick. My plan is ignore all that stuff, and do what I want. :)
