World Hopping
I use the world hopping option to move my ores. I have never used a ship or cart to move them. I feel I am missing out on this. So here is my feedback on world hopping....
If the devs did not want us to world hop they would have our characters use the inventory for that server, so our armour, gear and items change as we go to another server, to the items we had when we logged out of that server. Instead we keep our items and, therefore, the option to world hop.
My question is what do you prefer????????????
Please stay on topic, thank you:)

You do you. I don't do that because I feel it ruins the feel of the game.

I prefer to use boat and cart. you take away a fun part of the game from yourself if you dont sail the seas... imo

but evereybody can do as he or she likes :)

I don't think the devs designed world hopping so people could cheese the ore movement issues.

I think they added it so that people could socialise and help each other with boss fights and playing or building together.

I prefer to stay in one world and use ships and carts to haul ore. I feel more immersed this way and I honestly enjoy my little ore journeys and expeditions.

I'd like a server option for anything you can't portal to drop to the floor when logging out. Entirely server side inventory seems a bit much. (And a likely source of item deletion bugs.)

I did it once. I was playing solo and my guildmates asked in TS if anyone wanted to go on an iron run. Sounded good, so I agreed, logged out, logged into the guild server, and met up with two of my buds. We portaled to swamp. They had already scouted a crypt, we ran there, and with three guys working (and having 5 picks amongst us) we were able to pretty much clear 120 iron, some chains and then less useful loot, in one shot. Solo that would have taken me 3 or 4 trips. Great, we split the iron. They logged to their solo seeds, I logged to mine.

Everything else I've done I've used carts and boats. And that's the point, use what you like. I prefer the logistics game - I'm a masochist like that. I also learned how to sail, handle the cart, and am a good navigator because of it.

There was a RPS article (which I linked to over here) where the co-designers talked about their preferences. One guy loved adventure; the other guy loved building. After reading that I'm pretty confident adventure guy would play similarly to me. Building guy would do seed hopping because that's what he wants. One day there might be server options for locking out seed hopping (I could understand why a server host would want to limit resources to the server map only). That's pretty much the only thing I would be concerned about - addressing seed hopping as a priority before addressing the roadmap to complete the game would be a waste of time to me.

Let´s keep things like they are. You feel you missed out on something? Do another playtrough and don´t use it. Simple.

With all the network issues going on and things just not registering me putting them somewhere but deleting them from my inventory it needs to stay like it is.

Co-op you're probably missing out. You get so many other quality of life improvements to make time for it by having other people around and additionally the boat can be good quality time. One person commandeers and the others can take their hand off WASD for a bit.

Solo I'd say it's worth world hopping if you feel like world hopping. If you knew you were going to follow the explored way home it will probably turn out to be only as exciting as you expect. Serpents are often a no-show on boats, and when it comes to carts I've done enough escort quests to last a lifetime.

After you reach the iron age the cart isn't terribly practical even without world hopping, really just for extending boat storage. Traversing a black forest with a cart is fine but if you have to cross swamps or mountains on the way it's likely going to be slower than it's worth. Plains enemies will also make very short work of destroying them too. You're better off not taking on the carts mobility drawbacks and just running what you can over a few back and forth trips.

The other consideration is how well the pacing fits around your life. Getting to the later game stuff doesn't seem like nearly as much commitment to people who have all the time in the world.

I enjoy the sailing but it does desperately need expansion so more people do it willingly. Trying to force playstyles never ends well.
Sounds like you're trying to justify your "cheesing" addiction, along with some some psychological issues relating to your lack of self confidence and the fact that mommy and daddy didn't love you enough... thus you came onto a gaming forum to talk about your cheese.

Just sayin'... why?!
Weaver (Banned) Mar 31, 2021 @ 8:04am
I don't use it because it's clearly cheese, and I feel cheese defeats the point of accomplishing anything. We can bring a character and their inventory to other worlds so we can go on adventures with friends in other worlds without having to start from scratch every single time, the intent is clear.

Everyone is free to play how they wish, use mods, use dev commands, whatever, you do you. Just be honest about it and respect server rules.

However it's disingenuous to say that because you can exploit a system its intentional. It's like you can start a new character, hop into someone else's game, be handed all the boss heads then you can go back to your world and hang those heads and declare you beat the game in under 5 minutes. Clearly however, that's not how things are intended to be done and it would be absolutely absurd to argue otherwise. It's the equivalent of arguing that if you weren't meant to steal money in Monopoly when no one was watching, it would be locked up to stop you.

That board game exists btw, it's called Illuminati.

Nice stories and replies so far, except stay on topic please. Nothing worse than having to read player griever comments.

The only reason that world hopping cheese could be a problem is if competitive servers (the ones that will cater to pvp, which i personally don't care for but know will exist regardless) can't block imported inventories coming over. Being able to cheese out iron gear safely in a solo world doing world hopping cheese or even just farming in your solo worlds to hop back to the MP server world to storage/craft. Or imagine an even sweatier and scummier group that would store their loot on a private server they share only to go raiding any PvP server they can join.

Idk, doesn't really matter too much for coop/solo play because you should have rules set up to prevent unwanted cheese in your groups and solo you are the one responsible for your own choices.
