If it gets too frustrating, you can always console them, or have somebody join your game to give you some. But if you keep looking (easier to spot during the day) you'll find some.
Where the swamp and forest biomes meet seems to be best.
Be extremely careful along any plains border!!! (I'd suggest avoiding that stretch at this point in your game.)
Turnip seeds flowers are scattered and scarce in the swamp biome elsewhere, but this helped me out a while back. Obviously, turning down your vegetation settings will also help,
