Boars eat mushrooms, carrots and turnips. Anything else they won't eat.

True totally forgot about these.

They are not eating them though. Do I need to be in the immediate area of the trapped boars for that to happen?

Make sure there aren't any source of fire around them, like a torch or campfire. Check that they are not frightened, even of you (sneak if you're around them). Once they're calm, they should eat and start to tame (acclimatize).

Either they're scared by a fire or mobs are getting too close to them.

You have to be with in render of them to eat. If you are dropping the food and leaving the area, to where you can no longer see them, than that is your issue. To save on memory, anything outside your render view is put into stasis, its paused.

There taming timer will tick up slowly to a max of 33% per food they eat (matters not what food you give as long as its something they eat its all tames the same). It'll pause at whatever % it was when you leave render and make them go into stasis, but the taming timer will keep going and run out, but wont progress the taming.

So to tame an animal, you need to remain with in render of it. If your taming a boar its best to agro it and lour it to a pen near your base, as once tamed they can be tricky to relocate. Wolves will at least follow you.

If your creatures are aggravated they will not tame until they have calmed down again. So just make sure to back away from them enough to not aggravate them. If they have some food tossed in with them, they will eventually tame.

Also, taming can stop, if you are too far away from the creatures. I think the "chunk" goes into stasis when players are not in the area.

Mine only eat Raspberry. Are they fully tamed yet?
No fires nearby.
They have a rest area water area and 2 of them for starters. If tamed pat them they love you
