Valheim mods. Are they worth it? Recommendations?
Starting a new world after finishing up all 5 bosses and thinking about spicing the game up a bit with mods. Are mods worth it? Are there any good ones out there that make things more interesting?
Browsing through popular ones on nexusmods but I wonder if anyone can recommend worthy mods that don't break the game experience by making it too easy (a bit harder would be fine, but IMO it's quite easy as it is without any mods) but at the same time adding something new to the game.
Also wondering if I will be able to continue playing with the same character later in a vanilla game without mods.

i learned to appreciate some small ones like farming grid that makes replanting much less tedious without trivializing it, if you are looking for a challenge than the most fun way to do so is probably to look for one of the *higher starred enemies* mods (imo thats much more fun than to challenge yourself by limiting consciously like with these knife only challenges etc). for new content you should look through the list since wether it breaks your game experience is mostly a matter of perspective. gl hf

I would say if you have already finished the game once, it is definitely worth it.

Since this is the case, I recommend Valheim Plus, available here: https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/4

It combines multiple mods in one, provides a base modification for Valheim to increase quality of life, tweaks the game's difficulty, and in general, improves the player's experience.
Especially if you just started with modding this would probably be the best choice for now since you don't have to mess with multiple mods that may interfere with each other.

Also, please remember that mods are not officially supported, they may corrupt your savefiles or your install. Use at your own risk.

Yes they are worth it, and yes you get corrupt save files. ?Mine went corrupt 2-3 times until i worked out what was causing it. I hope the devs look at the mods and make some of them part of the game!

Using the dev commands there is no corruption but can only be used in Single player. look in the guides there is a how to use it there

Thanks for the responses! Already installed a few small ones like better archery and improved inventory. Looking at Valheim Plus and the one that controls mobs spawns as well.

I have several mods that are mostly for ease of crafting and basic playability. I always get mods from Nexua and they have several that are very nice. Valheim Plus is number one on the list, and if you use Nexus' Vortex Downloader it will show you any potential conflicts.

BE WARNED. Some mods create added inventory space to the character, and containers in game. If you run mods that restructure inventory, you may lose items that are in those slots if you disable the mod for Vanilla play with friends.

Do or Die Experience and Skyheim with Epic Loot . These mods add to the game a magic craft system, giving it a type of loot and shoot crafting game flavor. You'll find all the files you need on the Thunderstore modding site.

The downside is you'll need to download a few other mods that are needed to get Do or Die to function. Maybe a little headache, I know I had my problems with it but the bottom line imo, it's like playing a whole different game.

Epic loot mod is one of my favorites

There's a bunch of great quality-of-life mods I use (I play in VR).

I have Epic Loot installed already - it's quire neat.
I've also looked at Skyheim but I'm not quite sure about this one, it kind of feels like it breaks the original game feel.
Do Or Die seems to be deleted from both Nexus and Thunderstore.
So far I've installed maybe 10-15 mods and now the game feels quite revamped, so for now I can continue gaming without waiting for devs to bring in more content :D

Adding a vote in for VH Plus and Epic Loot, they're probably the best to start with. I did have to nerf the drop rates in Epic Loot though for that old school Diablo feel, otherwise it was too OP for me.

Also if anyone doesn't know, Epic loot mod gives the trader extra stuff & can send you on bounty quests to get loot and treasure. It's great.
I'd say they are definitely worth it. I have 31 mods running and never had a corrupted save, so far, & the game's performance isn't negatively affected most of the time.
Nexus has a scratch for almost every itch you can think of, it really depends on what you are
looking to change. Personally I cherish those mods that fix tedious game play mechanics
like mass farming, quick deposit and build from containers. Others that I wouldn't want
to miss anymore are Equipwheel, Glutton and auto fuel. Equipment & Quick slots
deserves to be mentioned, but unfortunately that mod has issues (you might lose your
stuff). I might have quit the game after defeating the Elder, hadn't it been for "Passive
Forsaken Powers".

Game breaking from your pov. I found the game broken without it. Granted, OP for sure once you have bonemass, if you chose to activate it. Other than that in single player without profiting from aoe effect of the powers when others share them with you, I don't see why one should have the run-a-round just to switch a power, especially when it's something as situationell as "faster tree cutting" or "being able to sail for once".
I don't even feel guilty about Eikthyr's power being passive. The stamina system in Valheim
is terrible. What did that Viking die from? A tobacco induced respirational illness?

I was wondering the same thing. last time I played was back in May.

From what I could gather any mods I came across online are utilization mods for people who have no tolerance for grinding, which I really enjoy that part of the game, to each their own. Even Valheim plus makes the game too easy for me.

I am like you and wouldn't mind a difficulty mod, but I am looking for like an actual overhaul of someones own design and not just taking the games code and extending storage, durability, etc. But until Valheim supports modding like that I doubt we will see anything like that.
