First iron stuff to craft?
Not sure how plentiful iron will be, so far I found one crypt and got around 60 ores. made the bow and realized i'm going to need a lot more iron if i want to upgrade everything. Should I invest in the longship first to find more swamps? Or keep using the Karve and craft other stuff?

I usually make the pick first. But that's just because I know what I can get with it.

I went with the longship. It can carry a lot more than the karve. I filled my longship up with iron and had to go back for more...The karve is good for shallow waters, the longship is good for ocean crossings and it can take more of a beating when/if you go hunting Sea Serpents. A must until you get good at it.

I made a pick first because I needed a lot of iron, then a mace. I explore in the Karve, use the long ship when I know where I’m going.

Pick, longship, mace, banded shield, base upgrades, 1-2 iron armor (optional), the rest is really not that useful. If you got draugr elite trophy, and enough coin, maybe the 2H mace although thats like 100 iron on its own.

u need iron later for the last set of armour. so enjoy going from crypt to crypt crypt to crypt crypt to crypt crypt to crypt crypt...... and more

(yes, you'll need a lot of iron in this game)

Iron shield was my first then the sword, then Pick, later a Ax, I skip Iron Armor for Silver most the time.

Pick and shield so I can start farming the mountains

The better pickaxe the quicker you can gather iron for everything else.

This is my train of thought about iron.

-When going to explore for a swamp, bring along 6 copper so you can put down a forge to make iron nails for a longboat. You will need a smelter of course, but those can be transported by portal. So yeah, longboat first so i can transport all that iron to my actual base.

List of most important things after that
-Workshop & Forge upgrades
-Pickaxe
-Shield
-Mace
-Upgrade them to their highest tier

If you have fully upgraded bronze armor, it should be good enough to at least survive the mountains. Moder i'm not sure, maybe if you are an expert at the game, but any regular enemy should be fine. If you don't have that lvl 1 iron armor is just as effective.

After this, you could go for an axe for wood cutting, but it's all about taste, it's not even the best tier axe yet. A copper axe should be fine really.

Finally, whatever you feel like making and remember, you can always use iron for reinforced chests and iron beams.

I made the armor first because I was rocking troll hide at the time, but with the benefit of hindsight I say make the boat first. You fill up the karve, take it back, smelt all that, make the boat and maybe armor or weapons, or base upgrades depending on your priorities and how hard you're finding the combat. Then you can take the longship back to your swamp and clear the entire rest of it in one go. Will probably take you a couple days IRL if you're playing 4-6 hours a day, but you'll come back with upwards of 600 iron and you WILL use it all.

To clarify I make the pick first because it expands my available resources.

Anytime you get a new resource tier, tools are always first. better tools = more resources faster.

Iron axe. Perfect weapon and is useful for wood chopping. If you don't have a personal preference, then you can't go wrong with an axe.
And yeah, you can basically skip longship. Karve is way more controllable, and can fit neatly through narrow rivers.

Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong.
