I agree ... this is likely to occur if you remove the workbench and re-place it. This is the only scenario where you might have disconnected upgrades.
If "connected" you will see a dotted line light up.
Probably one of the parts is not properly associating with it.
Deconstruct the upgrades and replace them watching for connection line.
The tanning rack was few inches too far after reconstructing workbench just a bit closer to the wall
Well, except wood piles! Or maybe also rock formations... and chests and shelves, of course. Pretty much anything goes but my tanning rack will be by the fire
