If it's the former, I have bad news, it's not even the scariest biome, the one after has a scarier atmosphere. The next biome they're working on does not look like a tame one either.
If you mean the latter, then yeah like others have said, just progress as much as you can with the resources you can get before the Black Forest. Hunt deer and boars, upgrade your leather armor to as high as you can, get the best bow you can and upgrade that as well. Do not, I repeat DO NOT pass off food as some random unnecessary mechanic, food might actually be more important than armor as stamina is a very important factor in deciding whether or not you can hit and be hit, if you don't have the stamina to attack or to sprint away then you'll have a hard time. It was also mentioned before, learn to parry, makes your life SO much easier.
Quick shout-out for the Douglas Adams reference!
- Start entering Black Forest by day and withdraw before nightfall, except if you can do some tiddy in one of the stone ruins, and locate on the map those Greydwarfs "camps" and burial chambers that seems to act like spawner for trolls, as well as all resource nodes (food, ore). At worst, if caught by the night, you can always turtle on the spot, half hidden behind an obstacle, or stay crouched in stealth mode, and go afaik for some minutes, as monsters can't smell you.
- You'll need to chop down trees and collect some bones to fully upgrade your pre-bronze gear, but as said, silex and plain wood weapons are enough at first.
- You can collect wood in several tries: first chop down several trees and run, then hack the logs, and run, then collect the wood and run. If a monster happens to stay there, just sleep a little or try somewhere else. As far as I know, except for food effects, time is your ally in Valheim.
- Likewise, monsters appear to regenerate slowly, and perhaps even only when you leave an area for long (and they actually despawn), so it's perfectly possible to take on them in several fights, or shooting sessions. And remember that unaware foes take additional damage, so break often and hide a few seconds, when outmatched or a troll is getting close. Just don't take too long before returning finishing them. Fire arrows, and shooting from a raft might help feel you more confident at first.
- As always, invest time to craft a full rescue equipment, and to build shelters near your exploration zones, to ease the recovery in case of death.
I think that all in all, this approach allows to domesticate the game mechanics (stealth, running, blocking, aiming, ...) in a more challenging hence efficient way than just training in the Meadows alone. Soon, without any copper mined, you can fight toe to toe even against a 0-star brute in full confidence.
I shall say that the above experience is prior to kiling first Boss; perhaps difficulty in Black Forest is up afterward.
