light problem at home
those d*mn torches and the endless supplying of resin.... why can't we light things with fire instead or coal like the hearth / hanging brazier??
Does all torches use resin? which ones do you use?

and no... i don't want to use mods

thanks

I just have 2 normal fire in my house, plenty of light for me. Torches seem pretty useless. I am fine with then using resin, but only being able to put 4 resis at a time on a torch makes them moot in my opinion.

yeah i'm not taking about on the inside. I have a huge house + a garden / castle area.
the amount of resin required to light up the place is way beyond what I can farm.

but my question remain: if there any torches / alternativ light sources that doesn't run on resin..
and I know that some mushrooms are glowing etc but I mean real fire

I would say item holders with glowing objects are the way to go. Anything with "fire" is going to take fuel.

I am a big fan of creative and artistic lighting and this game does allow you to do some nice stuff.

But... yeah

If you are going to do stuff like that you almost never have enough resin and it really is too much busy work to keep stuff burning nice. I've quit trying to build fancy large stuff and just build for function now rather than fashion.

I mean it is fine if people want to build fancy stuff but it comes with a price of maintenance I just don't want to deal with personally. I can accept that. There are just other things I would rather be doing in the game.

yes, but there are no torches that run on wood instead of resin? the hanging brazier does but those chains are a B to get. so making those is a pain

You don't need a lot of lighting in your base. Tried it, dropped my fps by 15 points. My new base has 1 hearth and 1 brazier, fps seems excellent, no more lighting needed and if i do need some extra i just get my circlet.

I just make a few hanging brazer things they take Coal last for ever

having trouble with resin? Take your pickaxe to a large forest region. Hit a rock. Resin will walk up to you, 4-10 per rock hit. Resin burns forever in the lights, and you literally get thousands of it from the darn dwarf spam.

various items glow but the light is poor. I don't see this being viable, even sutr trophy, even if you can put a shiny behind it to make it better.
guck torches.... seem like not an answer to your need, but they do run not on resin.
the copper wallhanging thing is esp efficient with resin use.
what is needed is some sort of oil light maybe.

The lighting situation seems to be tailored towards a viking home rather than a medieval castle. I'm hoping Hearth & Home will improve it somewhat.

I just wish they would add a lightsource that's cheap to build and runs on wood instead of resin. getting chain takes forever so hanging brazier is a no no.... =/
I'm a wealthy viking so my longhouse needs plently light and also within my stone walls.
my farms, beehives, workshop etc...

You could try a mod? If you don't want to resort to a mod then farm a greydwarf nest for resin... Yeah it's a pain refilling light sources but that's just the way it is

Edit: Or go on a small tree hunt, one hit destroy (depending on your axe) and they drop resin frequently

All but one of the torches requires resin, can't use wood, which makes sense since how would you use wood for them in the first place when they're upright like that. The only one that doesn't requires guck, and since you already seem to have gotten to the swamp you should know how incredibly hard it is finding guck.

I will agree with the others that you should use other light sources like surtling trophies or yellow mushrooms. You get so much resin in this game without looking for any that if you're running out I have to imagine you're using A LOT of torches, which is probably adding even more strain on your computer than this game already adds. I mean usually you don't build at night anyway, you don't need THAT much light outside, once it gets dark normally what you should be doing is going to bed.

Wait someone has a Resin issue? I have like 2 chests full of resin, you get like 56344145 from fighting Dwarfs and almost every other tree you cut down, I will just drop resin now a days
