Hearth and Home Update, (new worlds?)
Does anyone know if the hearth and home update will need new worlds or can me and my buddy's keep playing on our current world with the new stuff?

I'll see if I can get some more info on this for ya. I've been told previously that it's not 100% certain, but maybe that's changed.

Latcady, thanks :)

I don't think H&M is focused on world gen changes. It mostly adds new recipes and building parts that shouldn't need you to make a new world.

I'm also wondering this. Homorable_D has a point. I hope we can keep current worlds!

OK! I spoke to Smiffie and he say's that the previous info I had is still correct... the general goal they have is to avoid forcing people to restart worlds when big content drops like H&H come along, but it is possible as the game continues to grow that older worlds will get harder & harder to update with new stuff fully. So you may get some things from a patch on your old world, but not everything because some things require a "clean" environment to generate in.

So... you won't totally lose access to old worlds (at least for now - this might change in future depending what ends up getting changed/added) - but they may not be as fully populated with new content as a new world would be.

Sorry if I am not making sense, I'm super tired lol :steambored: hope that helps though!

Thank you for this detailed (and amazingly fast) answer :)

It's realistic to expect not everything will work on older worlds I think. But the dev's general goal is a noble one!

I will make sure they hear that :) Thank you! I'm always happy to help.

Edit: I believe there's a way to save individual builds you make in a game somehow? I have seen on Nexus mods where you can load in other people's builds - or maybe I'm fantasizing that because I'm so sleepy lol but anyway that may be an option for saving super special buildings and moving them to new worlds... I'll need to go google that when I can think straight lol

A big TY from my side about this detailed answer, too.

Will be expecting alot of HBdays on the 16.. excellent choice of release date.
Hi Latcat. I just wanted to say that I don't usually come to this sub-forum, or even engage with Valhiem at the moment, but I just passed through, and had to give you credit for your stellar moderation. It's not easy to keep a relatively large sub like this clean; but you seem to be doing a good job so far.

Well done.

We are currently looking into ways to make the transition between pre-hearth & home worlds and the new version as smooth as possible. We know also that players on Geforce Now cannot use the console commands at all.

So some patience and we will sort it you all out =)

You weren't thinking about going clothes-shopping when you wrote that by any chance?

*sorry for being a knob, I couldn't help myself
