Mining
I was under the impression that excavating an area around ore and then mining under it was the way to go? But I've tried that with multiple silver veins and the ore defys gravity each time. =/

Silver ore is always shaped like a Y. You don’t have to dig totally under it just make sure you don’t miss any. If your silver site is all deep I like to use that area to start a wolf farm

While I appreciate the information that isn't the problem. xD

The problem is that the ore is not falling down when I do finally mine it. I'll completely excavate the area and the silver will be floating there, then hit it a few times to break some and it just.. Stays. I've mined multiple silver ore veins now (I've killed Moder) but none of them have collapsed like they should.

it must have been patched out because ive never had any rock, ore or otherwise, break instantly.

I can get rocks to fall down, but they dont break. they behave like trees - they just hug the terrain.

it would be cool if you could do that, and carve out a giant chunk and when it fell, it explodes, however, thinking it through, once someone did that, nobody would ever mine the same again. i'm sure they thought about it, but i think how it works is good.
I've dug out around 4 copper nodes completely. Two of them required me to bang away bit by bit to finish them off. The other two were about 70% gone when they blew up into ore and rock. I have zero idea how or if this mechanic is something the player can control.

then wouldn’t pick axe upgrades be utterly pointless, since you can just mine the ground out under what you need

Copper collapses if dug fully out and then usually a bit more pickaxing.
Silver specifically doesn't collapse.
If you dig it out so it is floating and trigger a collapse situation it just floats there spamming "too hard". I imagine this is specifically to prevent some cheesing and require an iron pickaxe.
