Cheat penalty?
Hi everyone!, the issue is this. One day we were playing on a shared server, which we started recently, with my friends when out of nowhere many trolls suddenly appeared on the base we were building and when we died, obviously, this message "you died, noob" appeared. Then, with a lot of effort, we managed to get through the night, but when sleeping this message "Sleep tight ♥♥♥♥♥" appeared too. The next day, a Yagluth appeared to us at the base. We didn't know what was happening and out of nowhere in the corner of the house was the cheat sword. Will it be a punishment for using that?, and the same thing happened again today. Can someone help me or explain the situation?

so this shared server, who owns it? someone you know or some random guy on the web?

your issue is that you are on a shared server, whoever the admin/owner is they are most likely doing these things to you. if it isn't the admin then someone has hacked in admin commands for themselves.

it's mine, and expressly, I forbid the cheat and never summoned that sword, thats why is so weird, just pop up of nowhere. I'm afraid the server is now "infected" with that status.

The server is mine, and expressly, I forbid the cheat. The thing is, if is possible to "clean" that status, 'cause is unplayable right now.

There is no real protection in this game
If you dont want cheater on your sever choose whisely who you invite
And make backups, every day, at best all few hours

its infection is someone probably knows the default password to enable admin commands for themselves and used it. included in the dedicated server tool is a PDF manual on what all the defaults are, including default passwords. i advise reading up on changing those and rebooting the server with those settings. if you still get those kinds of things happening, then someone is hacking which the game is not protected against and one of your "friends" is scummy.

important thing is, ask everyone participating with your permission if they let anyone else onto the server, if they did, have THEM ask if their friends are using any kinds of hack tools or such. if yes, ban them. if all answer no ban every user that isnt a direct friend to you and say "we'll leave it at that till someone comes forward and apologizes"

the take away, dont let people into your server you can't hold to the rules you've set. the people in my hosted server, i can find IRL. if they are someone i can't, we chat and earn trust with each other.

Get rid of the 2 new guys. What you are experiencing is not part of the game so obviously someone is messing with you.

There are much easyer ways you dont need any passwords

but knowing the default password IS the easiest way. anything beyond that is extra steps. unless those people would use those tools for other games anyway. then it wouldnt matter.

There's your problem right there. Ban them for your server. Simply put, just let them know you are doing a server wipe and that since the problem started with the 2 new guys, they are now no longer welcome on the server. Lesson learned.

But in the context of this thread be carefull that the TO dont think that the chater must know the password. It can absolutly be that player A know the password but player B who dont know the password just use other tools

true, thats why my post covered all the bases. the legit way to accomplish all that and the fact there is no protection against unscrupulous methods beyond trusting the people you let in.

Unless you don't mind your server getting hacked i would strongly recommend you start using a direct IP address to log in, and don't advertise as a open server.

Valheim uses Unity, a widley known and used game engine. And unless the IG devs really paid attantion to security I suspect their client/servers are easy to hack. Unity was crated to run games and allow modding, not be a secured server.

The group I play with started on a public server with a password but after the guy running the server checked the log and saw literally thousands of attempted login attempts trying to guess the password he changed the config to private and IP log in only. Game performance is better too without all the attempted hacking going on in the background.
