Valheim

Combat Centered or Can be more peaceful?
Game looks great, just curious if it is more a war simulator or if someone could focus more on building up a home base and doing exploration.

the only fighting you have to do is for hunting, defending yourself from creatures and defeating bosses.
Build all you want, take as much time as you want.

Thank you, I tend to like building games more than FPS games so this was very good to know.

Even though you can take your time, and build things at your own pace, the creatures of Valheim will still wander over to where you are, and attack you quite often, so you must be prepared for battle (or escape) at ALL times. Don't misunderstand and get the idea that this is a casual builder and explore game... Valheim, and it's inhabitants, WILL try to kill you at every turn, and WILL succeed at doing so, sooner or later, and probably numerous times.

Its Viking themed game.

You will need to fight a lot. Even those that spend a lot of time at home and have monster proofed their homes still need to fight some, and it takes a long time or a lot of cheating to get to that point. Just getting a decent home built means defeating at least 3 bosses to unlock the things you need (or exploiting around one of them).
It's a fun game. You'll make friends like my troll buddy Erik.

That's exactly what I wanted to know. I do have Rimworld, so I have some familiarity with that sort of gameplay. But I am looking for a more relaxed buider right now. Thank you.

They're adding a creative mode in the future, so that may fulfill your desires. There's also servers you can join where people could do the killing for you while you build stuff for them.

Well, as far as that goes, you can already just use console commands, to get a "creative" menu (no cost to build anything, and all items and recipes unlocked / available).

To avoid any combat, or being attacked, can just type 'ghost' in console, to make yourself completely invisible to all mobs. (never get attacked).

You can build a lot, but eventually you will need to do *some* fighting, even if you omit the bosses. Personally I hate boss fights in games, but the busses aren't too annoying in this game, i.e.: no stupid "flashing spot" you have to hit at the proper time, etc.

It's very combat focused. If you're okay with using nothing but basic wood materials to build and never progressing, then you can stay in the meadows all you want and get by on bare minimal combat, but if you want to be able to actually make any of the more advanced stuff, you'll need to go to more dangerous places to get it, and fight bosses to unlock key items.

That only tells you which mythology of monsters to expect, most of Viking life was farming and hanging out just like any other settled culture.

While the expected game loop is gearing up to fight the bosses in order to unlock tech upgrades, it's surprising how far you can actually progress without doing that if you want. You're also free to have separate combat and building worlds and transfer tech from one to the other.

i did not real all of the above.
But yes you can play the game in a peacefull way but there will small animals like boars and small greyward that walk arround in the forest who you need to kill.. Typical they need 2-3 hits so nothing difficult.
However you will not get that far in valheim and unlock most things if you dont fight for it.
Example you have too kill the first big boss to get the tool to mine tin and bronze
( use bow arrow and run arround and shoot until he dies )
After that you can make the first metal and get a ship and unlock other things.
However to advance further you will have to kill boss 2 who give you a swamp key that unlock some crypts that have iron inside.
Technical speaking you can get some iron there without fighting but not so much.
Also the swamp is a very deadly area for new players without good gear so you have to run for it to find the crypt and take some iron and run home.
( prop tip.. dont park your ship near the swamp its gona die, park it a little way away from the swamp area and run to the swamp.

But yes you can go exploring and the game can be peacefull, however i dare to say its more combat focused than its peacefull since you run into creatures everywhere.
But you can build a big base mostly peacefully.
But in general you have to fight to advance and unlock many important things.

First example. This is the easiest route to tin and bronze but you don't actually have to. Trolls can be tricked into gathering those resources for you, letting you build a regular bronze pick.

After H&H update, you have constant spawns around you (so you will be attacked by greyling every ~2 minutes if in meadows - for example) and if you do not protect your buildings, they will eventually destroy everything, so you will be constantly fighting them off.
And killing bosses changes night spawns, so after 1st boss there will be constant night attacks of greydwarfs with shamans

So if you really into peaceful building, not the game for you anymore - unless you want to play with dev console
