Once you have enabled devcommands, you can turn on flight and building without resources.

F5 -> devcommands

Button Z = fly
Button B = Build for free
In a solo game it's totally fine, play as you want.
If you want a more 'minecraft' creative type experience by building stuff without having to forage for it, I don't see any issue with that.
The only issue I would agree comes with cheating like this is that you really don't get a natural experience of game progression and scaling. Having everything maxed out with the best weapons and armor might make a lot of content super easy, that doesn't give you a good idea how reasonably challenging it should be in practice.
