Necessity of Bronze Armor?
I'm at the point in the game where I've crafted everything I need (mostly) with Tin/Copper/Bronze, upgraded most of it, and am about ready to fight the Elder. I've fought it before, so I know Bronze Armor isn't particularly necessary for it if I prepare well enough.

That said, though, how necessary is it for the next area? I presume it's the Swamp, as I haven't made it further than this even in my playthrough before H&H.

The main reason I ask is the movement speed penalty. I've been in some situations where that would be completely devastating, and was curious if the Bronze set was absolutely necessary due to the protection it offers compared to a fully upgrade Troll set.

Thanks!

you can kill him naked with a bow, just don't get hit and eat some decent food lol.

In my experience, yes. Although one can argue the most important thing is poison resistance potion but not mutually exclusive with bronze armor
But yea them draugr elite and wraiths will kill you too easily with troll armor

Troll armor is more useful than before because the upgrade level requirments have been reduced. This means that isntead of level 2, you can now upgrade it to level 3 before leaving the Black Forest. That means 33 armor.
Bronze can still only be upgraded to level 3 before going to the Swamp, so the maximum you can get from it is 39 armor, but it comes with 10% movement speed penalty.
So bronze isn't really worth it unless you are playing multiplayer and can't get enough troll skin for everyone.

Dont worry about the movement speed penalty, the only reason you may want to go full troll armour is for the sneak bonus damage, if you are just going to the swamps I would initially go bronze and poison resist pots. If you can get some iron then maybe think of using the Iron Sledge to clear the crypts in the swamp... but initially I would say go Bronze, the speed loss is hard to feel.

Going by this breakdown of stats it sounds bronze armour is quite unnecessary, it's just for swagger

Troll armor is just fine, especially if you manage to find early dungeons for iron. That way you can pretty much boost yourself straight away. As long as you're decent with your dodges/parries and stamina management + good food you should be doing more than fine with troll armor.

Troll armor is enough for the swamp. Just don't face tank anything. Most of the threats in the swamp are slow enough that careful back stepping can allow you to avoid all damage. Draug archers are dangerous with either bronze or troll armor, use cover or dodge the arrows. Use good food (2*HP, 1*Stamina) and you'll be fine either way as long as you are cautious and don't stay in the water for longer than necessary.

Having a hoe in the swamp is also incredibly useful. That way you won't have to set a foot in the water.

Oh bronze armor does reduce your speed a lot. More than often i'd just run naked because was way faster.

You can skip most of the bronze age if you want. Bronze ingots take like 3 times as much effort, not to mention its abysmal mat ratio
Troll hide is less armor, but its easier to get and it doesnt impact speed.

You can skip bronze armor altogether and do just fine.

Oh wow, lots of opinions, haha.

I think I only need a Troll or two to fully upgrade the last two pieces, and I play pretty cautiously anyway.. I'll see what happens with Troll instead of Bronze. When it comes to being overwhelmed I'm a fan of running away instead of trying to kill all sorts of stuff at once.

I'm not super worried about the Elder, but need to do a few things first before I kill it.. so I'll focus on all of that before heading in to a Swamp. From the looks of my seed, I might have to sail a bit to find one anyway.. just hope I don't land in a Plains and get harpooned by a Fuling.

Thanks everyone!

Bronze armor has zero necessity to advance as many others have said.

Troll is enough and anti poison potions are more then enough to get through the swamp areas and Bonemass NP.

depending on your map, troll may be hard to get. Bronze is ensured, but trolls have to be found and are sometimes a rare critter. I had a full upgraded set of bronze long before I finished out my troll set (unupgraded) due to infrequent spawns... each map has its own oddities

True enough! Thankfully, despite the danger of a speck of Mountain biome near some of my Copper nodes, the Meadows I spawned in is basically surrounded by Black Forest on the North, East, and South. West is a small bit of Ocean that seems to connect to more Black Forest, given the placement of the Elder's marker.

I've encountered a couple Troll spawns out in the open, and about 5? caves that each had one, luckily enough.
