Portal Problem
SOLVED and RESOLVED.

Ok, so I got my first portals built yesterday. They worked fine last night. This morning, I log in and go through the portal to the one labeled shop, and it dumped me at my other portal location....ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP. So now I'm without a ship and can only pray that the land connects enough so I can get back to home base. I finally made it without dying, but I'm scared to go through the portal again. That literally took me like more than an hour to get back. What went wrong?

Another thing I did was make an unconnected portal named FUBAR as a back up for situations like that. If I get sent some where unexpectedly I can just rename the local portal to connect to my emergency portal and get back to base. Then immediately clean up the name of the remote portal once I figure out what happened so FUBAR will always be ready to save my bacon.

Am I missing something here? Why not just go back through the portal, instead of travelling back on foot?

I'm just trying to understand what happened. It appeared to be connected at my home, since it lit up. To be honest though, I didn't read it to verify it was ACTUALLY connected. I will from now on though, to be sure. I just wonder if anyone else ever had this happen. Once I got back to home base, I logged out. I'm done for now. I'm exhausted. :)

It said it was unconnected. I definitely tried to go back through. It didn't even light up.

If your changing the portal name to something else when its already connected to another portal, just change it to some random letter that isn't used for any portals and wait until the portal is off, then change it to the correct destination.

Hmm. I believe that if you rename a portal (change its tag) it takes a couple seconds or so to update, so if you only have one portal at your base and switch target portals by renaming it, that could have been it.

Other than that, no idea.

Edit: Ha, ninjaed. :P

I didn't change the name when I went through it though.

If it happens again, create a new character and enter your seed where you're stuck. Go to your home base and check the name of the portal and change it if needs be to the right thing. Log back in with your usual character and you should be able to go back to your home base. That saves you running all the way back.

Its survival game. And you failed. Try again and better.

Always have two portals at home, one that's named to your destination and one unnamed. That way if you have to set up a new base or fix a connection issue, you can use the unnamed one.

maybe you changed the portal name on accident and made a space somewhere or is it still open in your homebase now?

Thank you so much for the extra helpful advice.

Thanks! I'll be sure to give it time to set before hopping through next time. Pretty sure that's what happened, but I'm waiting for hubby to get home so we can send one of us through, while the other stays home to monitor. :)

UPDATE: Seems you were correct if you said it just hadn't had time to set itself yet. Lesson learned, and we will make sure it's properly warmed up before jumping through next time. It worked perfectly tonight. Thank you for your help!
