Got my boat stuck need help!
So I decided to go through this river on the map to shortcut some time and apparently it wasnt such a good idea. Theres a lot of rocks sticking out and the boat is totally stuck. I tried getting in the water and pushing to no avail.

So what should I do, Can I take the ship apart and get the mats back?

yes, you get 100% of your mats back.

If you hit it enough on the mast you get the materials back but nails sink. Try to do that in shallow water. you can raise the ground under it enough sometimes.
if you have a pick you can bust up the rocks.
you can row backwards, its slow, but sometimes it works.
if the wind is strong enough you can try using the sail to break free.

if the water is not too deep you can destroy the boat and get the mats back

You -might- be able to push it when a storm occurs. But I would just make sure the land under it is raise then wack it to get the mats back.

Destroy the rocks and hack away the dirt to make more depth.

Do I hit the boat with the pick to get the mats back?

Some things to keep in mind when your boat gets stuck in shallow water:

1. keep your rudder STRAIGHT. This is important, if your rudder is turned it's very hard to start moving from a standstill even if your boat is floating in deep open water. Straighten out, and paddle (speed 1) forward or backward to start moving. Then, either move directly away from whatever you're stuck on, or once you're moving pivot against it to free whichever side is stuck, then move straight away from it until you can steer clear.

2. If the water is shallow enough to stand, You can PUSH the boat. Jump off and shift-run against the boat, it will move slightly. Once you get even a little distance from whatever its stuck on, you should be able to jump back on and shimmy away from it.

3. As has been mentioned already, you can destroy the boat, just be mindful of the nails because they will sink to the bottom.

What I normally do in this case, is dig a ditch next to the boat. It's a pain, and takes some time sometimes. Then, I'll push the boat (walk next to it and push it) to the ditch. Sometimes it takes pushing the front and back to rock it into it. I'll then dig the ditch wider. I've made some boating channels from some of my houses, that are away from the open ocean a bit. Takes time, but is fairly doable.

I was a bit annoyed that I couldn't destroy the ship with hammer like buildings but reading this thread makes me hopeful I don't have to travel my ship all around the continent just to place it elsewhere. Thanks for this thread. I learned some more. :broflex:

So I managed to wiggle free and get through the river. Very exciting.

I realized the rudder thing and finally managed to get free.
