Breath of the Wild = adventure game made for all ages
okay, but im talking mechanics? Not game genre..
Stamina is fine if you know how to manage it.
I use a one-handed mace, dagger, bow and shield. I eat one Health Food, One "balanced" food, and One "Stamina" food. I sneak and use the bow a lot. I sprint constantly. Only mods I am using is Safe Death (with just the no skill loss active) and ThreeXBronze (after I watched a guy in real life make bronze and was like
I consider something to be an 'issue' if my annoyance level exceeds my tolerance level, and it has only occurred doing one activity....farming. Planting crops is SUCH a pita. The stamina drain for planting makes an already annoying activity down right awful. Not only does the clicking and button-pressing cause an issue ( fingers and hardware ) -because there is way to much of it- but the fact it uses stamina is omfreakin doodle-pops....no just no. There are some design decisions in games sometimes that are like ?????? but some are just down-right wrong.
So I agree that stamina usage needs to be looked at. I, however, think it's okay where combat is concerned. Running, jumping, farming might need adjustments. I don't think stamina should be an after-thought in a survival game however. In my opinion it needs to remain an important resource, balanced by the player, if they want to survive and succeed in the game.
Eat stamina related food, take it easy with your attacks sprinting and dodging, and DON'T FORGET to get the resting bonus at home! It makes your stamina regen a lot quicker.
Anyways, it's very easy to manage. Stamina foods vs health foods depending on what you want more of (stamina if you can handle fighting with lower health), and then avoid doing much at night (cold) or in the rain (wet), and rest constantly for the rest bonus. All these things contribute.
