Valheim

is it me or is the stamina mechanic really frustrating?
I really enjoy playing this game. But what really annoys me how every move i make costs stamina. Like, combat is just really annoying because of this. I think breath of the wild makes a nice use of the stamina mechanic. Maybe something like that makes the game a bit more fun to play? :celeste_bird: idk how everyone else thinks about this.

It is off. You spend way too much time waiting for stam to regen vs playing.

Right? I hope they update it.

2 stam foods 1 health food and rested buff, avoid getting cold and wet.
Stamina is fine if you know how to manage it.

I can't believe they thought making the game more of a grind was a good idea.

Well that's the point, this game is aimed at a more hardcore crowd, while Breath of the Wild is aimed at people of all ages and skill level.

It's a delicate balance trying to inject stamina in a meaningful way from a survival aspect. If it regens too fast it becomes an almost trivial resource pool. Each player has their own threshold of patience when it comes to waiting on any resource to regenerate. Even if it regenerated 50-100% faster than it does now, there'd still be people who don't like it.

I use a one-handed mace, dagger, bow and shield. I eat one Health Food, One "balanced" food, and One "Stamina" food. I sneak and use the bow a lot. I sprint constantly. Only mods I am using is Safe Death (with just the no skill loss active) and ThreeXBronze (after I watched a guy in real life make bronze and was like :steamfacepalm: ) - Just so you know my stamina isn't edited.

I consider something to be an 'issue' if my annoyance level exceeds my tolerance level, and it has only occurred doing one activity....farming. Planting crops is SUCH a pita. The stamina drain for planting makes an already annoying activity down right awful. Not only does the clicking and button-pressing cause an issue ( fingers and hardware ) -because there is way to much of it- but the fact it uses stamina is omfreakin doodle-pops....no just no. There are some design decisions in games sometimes that are like ?????? but some are just down-right wrong.

So I agree that stamina usage needs to be looked at. I, however, think it's okay where combat is concerned. Running, jumping, farming might need adjustments. I don't think stamina should be an after-thought in a survival game however. In my opinion it needs to remain an important resource, balanced by the player, if they want to survive and succeed in the game.

I never play multiplayer but the new set up seems to have them in mind. You can have your archers playing that style, using stamina, and sword and board playing theirs, using health. As A single, I use both, lob a couple arrows and switch to melee as needed. But my food choice only supports one.

yes the game is less fun now, they realy missed the mark with the insane stamina nerfs

Stamina needs to be addressed. As other have said, not as much fun anymore, just a chore that interrupts play.

I don't mind it much. I have many issues with certain aspects of the game, but none of them are stamina related.

Eat stamina related food, take it easy with your attacks sprinting and dodging, and DON'T FORGET to get the resting bonus at home! It makes your stamina regen a lot quicker.

I have had zero problems with the system short of pre patch which was unforgiving (but I was still content). Perhaps your relationship with consumerism is an issue. I read an interview discussing the nature of player requests versus the game the creators want to make. So far it fits what I want to play and the game they want to make. If it doesn't, perhaps reconsider buying very popular games as soon as they hit the top ten. I do not buy a new COD game because I know I won't be happy, furthermore the developer (infinity ward?) has no need to appease me, I am not buying and they don't care because they are trying to make a game they want. I don't want it. Easy solution, we go separate ways, I don't play COD and I also don't complain when it doesn't fit my bill. Forgive my terse nature, I read stuff like this all the time on forums and it it more about the consumer than the artist.

Never played Dark Souls, I take it? I find Valheim's stamina system is a good compromise between gritty stamina-intensive combat stamina, and long-distance-travel adventure/sandbox stamina. It's very hard to achieve one without breaking the other in the same system.

Anyways, it's very easy to manage. Stamina foods vs health foods depending on what you want more of (stamina if you can handle fighting with lower health), and then avoid doing much at night (cold) or in the rain (wet), and rest constantly for the rest bonus. All these things contribute.
